Dont kno if this is the right area to post this but Im traveling to Hawaii tomorrow from Portland for vacation. I was wondering if anyone would kno if its possible for me to pack my Lipos since Im bringing my rig with me. I called TSA and read their website but it doesnt state anything about LIPOs. When I called them the guy wasnt so helpful either lol. He was saying something about grams and what not. I have 5 lipos in a LIPO sack and dont kno if I should carry it on or check them. Dont wanna get them taken away from me either. Any suggestions or answers?

When I flew to Montana for the Scale Nats last year I did a lot of research on this and found out the LiPo batteries are actually supposed to be stored ONLY in carry-ons! I assume this is because if they do catch fire, at least they are accessible and can be put out, unlike in the cargo area.

So that's what we did and we had no problem going through security, either. I had my batteries in clear zip loc bags in their own tray through the scanner. No problems!

Good luck!
Tommy

Lipo's fall under the same hazmat regulations as lithium ion. If you tell me the volts and amps I can tell you how they have to be packed. I ship hazardous materials internationally as a profession. Batteries are one of my biggest commodities.

Tommy- Thanks man !!! I called the local TSA office here in PDX and he said the same thing as you. Jus leave them in my carry on and take it out when going thru screening. I have them in a LIPO sack but I will takem out induvually and put them in their own ziplocs. Thats what I was waiting to hear cause I kno alot of the guys who travel for nationals would kno.

Carry on is a good idea. Make sure they are accessible as mentioned above. That is the exact reason they want those in carry on.

Just a suggestion. A friend of mine did the same thing and he secured balloons over the connectors as alittle extra safety. Assuring them that they would not short and cause any problems.

As mentioned already, carry on only.

Package each LiPO individually so there is no chance of them shorting. ZipLock bags, or even anti-static bags from computer parts.
Then put them all in a LiPO sack as well.

I stored each battery individually in one of these 4 pocket sacks when I travelled from Australia to USA for the Nats last year:

No questions asked by any airlines there or back.

Cheers,
Mike.

Made it to Kauai?

Hi JoeWorks,

Not sure what more info you are looking for.

Make sure you pack them as carry on luggage.
Package each battery individually so there is no chance of them shorting out - place them in ziplock bags or computer anti-static bags. Tape them closed, then put them all in one LipoSack.

You should not have any problems with that.
4 of us travelled from Australia to Las Vegas last year doing exactly that with no issues.

Cheers,
Mike

I traveled to Vegas with a 2200, 1750, and 1600mah 3s Lipo batteries. Carry on only. Taped the plugs and put all 3 in a Lipo sack. The TSA guys were nice and accommodating. They swabbed one for bomb residue on the way down but I was lucky enough to get a guy on the way back that had RCs. Make the batteries easily accessible and put them in a separate bin when your going through the X-ray machine. Have fun down there!

He went and returned and I didn't get a pissed off text. Hahahaha. Must have been a success.

I've done it before myself twice. Never an issue.

What day you leaving for Vegas? I'm flying to Oahu in late May. I like gather the braddahs and crawl a few times. PM me.

Shootz
