Traxxas parts to the rescue

I was about ready to scrap this Kyosho crawler project. I had the front and rear all ready to 4-link, but no way to connect a driveshaft because of the damned dogbone driveshafts, and you know how those love to fall out under articulation.

Don't you hate it when your bone falls out all the time?

Taking the diff apart, I noticed the pinion's shaft was 5mm, and the gear was lightly pressed on, and held in place with a 2x10 pin. Now that sounds familiar.

Traxxas stub axles happen to have the same hole-to-flange spacing. Dremel off the threads, and now my Kyosho diff has a Traxxas U-joint. The tranny has a 5mm shaft, so it'll take Pede outputs.

Yes, I realize this information is utterly worthless, as nobody else is dumb enough to build a crawler from a Kyosho nitro truck. But there's a solution for everything, and it usually involves Traxxas parts.

Now I can get this POS built.

I just realized you could probably do this to a TLT as well, if you cut the slot for the pin in the back side of the gear yourself.

So maybe it's not so worthless after all

EDIT: nope, still worthless, or close to it. You'd have to drill the TLT pinion out to 5mm to make it work, and who's got metric drill bits?

The pinion for an associated tc4 is the exact same gear as the tamiya axle pinion with a slot in it already. The only problem is that I could only find one in plastic, but it might be worth trying if I bought some metric bits. If you want to try them I'll send the gears to you Microgoat as I just sold my TLT axles. PM me your address if you want them.

Nah, I can get TC3/4 pinions at the LHS. Employee discount, too. My TLT pinions are all in good shape, and I have a spare, so I'm all set. But if someone else wants to try it, that's good to know.

Doesn't everyone? lol!

In all honesty though I must abmist that I have a full set from 2mm --> 7mm in .5mm increments. They come in handy from time to time.

BTW, nice tip on the Kyosho parts but I'll likely never use those so...

its at times like this i regret being english
