i've always had hand tremors and little ticks, but lately they've been getting a lot worse. last night i was almost put on my ass by a leg spasm that i just couldn't stop. right now my hands are shaking to the point that typing is a real pain in the ass.

now i know this isn't normal, and i see my psychiatrist tomorrow, but i don't know how to explain what is happening, my mom (she's a nurse, i live at home still) described it as seizure like movements. that's kinda a big scary thing for me....coming here to see if anyone else has experience with really serious spasms and tremors, and what the verdict was from the doc.

I'm not sure a psychiatrist can help you with this, I could be wrong though....

Good luck and I hope you figure it out and get well! "thumbsup"

like i said, seeing the shrink tomorrow, may be a med related thing. if he says get to the hospital so be it, have to go. just weird that it all of a sudden got to the point that it's dangerous.

Definetaly get to the doctor that prescribed your meds, I work with adults with disabilities and anytime they start to act or feel diff we have to get them checked out.

update, went to the shrink, he said that my meds should be reducing tremor if anything. so i've got an appointment with my regular doc tomorrow morning to set up a referral to neurology.

another update, family doc was stumped as hell, so got a neurology appointment for march, hoping they have a clue, if they don't then i'm off to rochester to mayo's main clinic. my back and shoulder decided they wanted to cause trouble today, ripped my shoulder back and then locked up the shoulder.

another update, i got a muscle relaxer prescription from my family doc. taking it with my normal meds and it seems to be helping. i'll have times where it feels like my shoulder or back is going to go, but nothing happens. i'm still getting used to the side effects, but everything seems to be a lot calmer. my hands are much more steady than before, still have some tremor, but nothing like before. have the neurologist appointment on the first still, hopefully we can get a good solution. before now the only thing that helped were prescription painkillers (vicodin and percoset), and i had a hell of a time getting off percoset after my hand, don't want to be stuck with that monkey again.

Ive had problems with muscles spasms in the neck/shoulders for years. When it gets so bad I cant take it a muscle relaxer usually does the trick but the drowsy/groggy/dizzy side effects generally puts me down for the day.

Hope everything goes well for ya!

yeah, me too. the thing that's really worrying them is that its the right side of my body and my left eye goes wonky sometimes. i never get tremors on the left side. i'm ok with the side effects, i just have to get used to them. when i was a drinker, i would start at noon most days, got to the point that drunk was normal....the side effects of the muscle relaxers are way easier than being solid drunk. i'm a little dizzy, but they're doing their job.

just got back from my neuro appointment...i hate seeing that look on a doc's face, if you've never seen it, consider yourself lucky. don't know what's going on yet for sure, but i'm on a work hold till the 18th. next week i have an eeg and then on the 17th an xray to make sure i have no metal in my head (hence the work hold, i won't even think about screwing with magnets that powerful). so i'm staring down the barrel of some truly messed up stuff. did the usual neuro tests, flexing my arms, legs, and testing reflexes on each side of my body. got that look when he went to flexing my right arm manually, it would kick back at him involuntarily on the right side, and was right as rain on the left. scary shit man.

Do you consume anything diet or any chewing gum? I suggest you check the packaging for phenalalanine or aspartame. If so then stay away from those products for a while and see if you improve.

nope, no diet pop, and i very rarely chew gum. i read something about that in the past...its a good thing i hate the taste really. i generally stay away from artificial sweeteners unless i have to, like the last can of pop bad. i either cook myself or know the recipe of what i eat, the few candies i eat are high fructose corn syrup based, nothing too harmful, and in moderation.

nothing unusual really, i've been on the same meds since august 1 and they kinda started popping up at the end of september. if anything my psych meds should be reducing tremor. and trauma has been normal for me, end mill bit my finger in december but that's nothing new. about the only thing that's changed is my blood pressure has gone down. on a blood test, all was on spec. just not really seeing anything truly different.

What about RF interference. Are you near a radar or cell tower or do you have a bunch of wireless networks around in your building? Do you carry a cell phone at all times? Sometimes all the electrical interference can cause symptoms. Even seems that people can be extremely sensitive to cfl bulbs. Did you change every bulb in your home to a cfl lately? Or at work? I know it sounds "out there" but it's possible.

I have a tic that causes me to shrug my shoulders and move my neck/head a lot. Sometimes it's completely gone, sometimes it's pretty bad. I've never seeked any medication for it but I do know that it gets worse if I keep my cel phone on me all day, for a long period. Since I have noticed that the cel phone searching constantly for a tower makes it worse, I put it in the car or shop as much as possible. And set it down away from me at home. I also get headaches when I am around to much RF signal. Recently, the gas company came around and changed everyones gas meter to a wifi connected smart meter so every place around here has a wireless network running even if they think they do not. I have heard that some of the residents have complained about headaches, home network range decreased, and people with devices like pacemakers installed in their body having issues since they were installed. Same with people and cfl bulbs. These are tenants so I see them regularly at work, and I talk to many of them daily.

Also, it's not induced by any of your psych meds? It was prior to any meds, right? My wife is a Psych nurse and psych meds are her business. There can be a lot of side effects.

as far as the cell and wireless stuff, i've had to carry a cell since i was 14, i have 2 i carry daily, so i'm not thinking that. i did change computers, but the wireless router has remained the same, and same computers running at the same times. i know some people are sensitive to them, not all that far out there really.

i've had minor tremors my whole life, its just that recently they're hitting it hard. when i talked with my shrink, he said 2 of the 4 psych meds would reduce them, and now that i have muscle relaxers, they by all rights if it was med related be gone. the really coarse ones are much decreased since starting the relaxers though. the ones i see as minor are pretty concerning to my neurologist, the reflexes went into overdrive like i've never seen before...right side was way more intense reaction than left. and the arm and leg on the right side would just kick at him while he was moving them manually...i was as relaxed as i possibly could be, and i had 0 control over it. even trying to close my eyes and touch my nose was weird, left hand perfect, nothing out of the ordinary. right hand was off target and had the tremor the whole way.

the other thing that he brought up were injuries, and i threw my back out a few times this year....but wouldn't that affect both sides? you'd think so but i am no doctor. also did mention to him that my left eye will go twitchy or fuzzy at times....that's when he said i was getting an eeg and mri.

had a cognitive function test yesterday....was actually ahead on all the questions asked. the person administering it was surprised. so whatever this is isn't impairing my brain function with things like math and vocabulary. good thing there. talked to 2 psychological professionals, the one that gave me the test and my normal therapist, and again, neither had any real leads. not what i wanted to hear, but pretty much what i expected to hear. they also recommended highly to either stop fab work on the rc stuff, or to have my mother or friends out there while working with the powertools. i'm thinking this is the best think i've heard out of this yet....makes sense. now thursday is my eeg, this is a no sleep one, so from 6p to 7:15a i have to stay awake, with no caffeine. i'm getting seriously burnt out of the hospital stuff, it seems like i'm in the hospital or at the doc's office more than i'm home, left at 9:30a and didn't get back until 3p yesterday and was completely exhausted. just hoping for a solution or at least a diagnosis in the near future...even if the diagnosis sucks.

got my eeg results back, everything checks out on that front at least. have a head x-ray thursday as a metal check and then the mri friday. not too enthused about the mri...powerful magnets scare the crap out of me. other than that, spirits are as high as they can be. the weather is nice and i can spend all day outside again.
