TRX 1/16th Summit into '53 Ford 1/12th Crawler

That is cool, a 4 wheel independent suspension '50's Ford / scaler/crawler. Nice! I can't tell but is it to wide to mount across the hood? Or strapped to the rear bumper. Like those mirror mounts BTW.

Thanks,
Yeah, the little Summit was always kind of a "toy" to me until I set it next to the Pumpkin and noticed the wheelbase lined up. I wanted to revive the old Punky, and wanted an electric crawler (I built a Revo 3.3 into a Nitro Summit/Revo hybrid with 14/72 gears for rock-climbing /trail-running a few years back) so Pumkinstein was born. It's been a super-fun project.
Those are my 2nd and 1/2 set of mirror mounts. They get mashed up pretty regularly on the rock-pile. I wanted something kinda old-style, but simple, that I can bend back into shape. I wish I could find another set of those rubber mirrors. The "carriage bolts" are cut sewing pins. : )
Oh, and the jack is 1/10th and my truck is 1/12th so the jack IS a bit too long for the hood. I'm thinking of makin' some brackets on the bed lids somewhere.... maybe.

Still need to mount the jack (I'm thinkin' on the bed, like pic'd), but I've been building the boat trailer so I needed to mount a hitch.

The Gear-Head receiver was easy to mount, since I already had the T-plate to hold the tow-shackles. Rock Armor drop-hitch hooks up nicely to the new boat trailer.

It shold make a decent "tag-along".

There's more about the jet-boat and trailer in the "non-crawlers" section below.

Well, I got my boat trailer built to the point of a test-tow .... aaand my truck suspension was too soft to keep the tail up. So I made a helper spring from the same leaf blower spring I used for the trailer leaf-springs.

Since my truck has wish-bone type suspension, I made it transverse "Corvette-style". I ran studs thru the body-mount to anchor the center and made it hook into the socket-heads on the upper arms. I can snap it in or out (even with the body on) to go from towing to crawling in seconds.

The trailer pulls like a dream, and with the helper-spring in, the truck stands tall but still has some "cush".

Now more work to do on the trailer and boat. :)

While I was waiting for paint to dry on the boat trailer I ordered one of RC4WD's new Warn "mini" winches for Punky. Got a Hawse fairlead from LockedupRC, and with a little tweak, polished it up and mounted it. The spec's show it's as strong a the bigger one, uses the same trans' and motor.

Here's the pair side-by-side to show the difference. The mini holds a little less line (about 2-1/2ft less of 200-lb line). It only had about 4 ft. on it, now almost 8. :)

My truck is 1/12th, so I think the smaller winch fits it much better.

Thanks joe, I've been giving most of the attention to the trailer build lately but the truck is my first love. I have a few minutes invested in it, it's been a LOT of fun to build (and still IS :) )
And hey, the trailer would have nothing to hitch to without it. ;)

I worked up a set of rock-sliders for Pumkinstein. It already has a few dings in the running-boards, but hey, "better late than never" my dad used to say.

I cut down a stock pair for a TF2, chopped out 1 ladder section and cut off the mounts.

Trimmed the ends for tire clearance, primed and smoothed the epoxy "welds" and then shot 'em flat black again.

Drilled the battery doors and hung them on the sides.

They fit pretty well and wrap under the steps nicely. Should cut down on damage a bit.

Let me know what you guys think.

Nice work! With all the nice scale bits you have done to that thing have you ever thought of running 1/16 slash arms on it? it narrows the track up almost perfect for the pumpkin body and would add to the scale looks, it would reduce the height a bit too though. I did one awhile back with a lexan basher body (had a hard body too but sold whole setup)

Thanks TacoZilla :) Yeah, I checked out the narrower arms but the wheelbase is too short with them. I originally built the truck to max it's crawling ability... and look decent in the meantime, so I stretched the Summit rear arms as much as I could to max the wheelbase and match the fenders. I wanted it to "go" first and "show" second.

I finally figured out where I wanted to mount my High-Lift jack ... you know... out of the way, but you want it handy when you get in a sitchee-ayshun.

I (JB) welded a pin into the front roll-bar to slip thru a hole in the base of the jack and cut and bent an aluminum bracket, with a bolt to go thru the upright.

Then I made the spinner with a 2mm nut and washer and piece of steel wire (a marker flag for underground lines). I took the wire out to the ol' train-rail anvil and with a hammer and a flat ended punch I flattened a "washer" section of the wire.

It took 3 or 4 strikes to get it to the right thickness and shape, so that it ended up like this...

Then to the drill-press for a hole, then I clipped the "handles" and filed them to length....

and with a bit of filing, it fit the 2mm nut and was ready for more (JB) welding.

I use Teflon pipe-seal tape to keep the spinner assy from sticking to the threads as I epoxy it together.

and in minutes a nut, washer and wire are a spinner ready for paint.

Holds the jack nice and solid, and I can pull out the "spare" without needing to remove the jack.

Well not much has happened for ol' "Punky" for a while, (other than just occasionally going out to the rock pile) but a couple of weeks ago I got a Fat Shark FPV set-up so I decided to scoot Jack'd out of the drivers seat for a bit. I got the 1088 set, because you can power it straight from the balance plug of any 2,3,or 4s, then stepped up to the Pilot HD cam' for easy recording, and HD. :D

I know my "gimbal" is pretty cheesy, but hey, it holds it in solid enough for rock climbin'.

I ran the antenna out the back, under the roll-bar for playin' on the rocks, but for running around the yard and driveway, it gets better range stickin' out of the sunroof. 8)
The board holds the cam' at about eyeball high, so you get a decent view with the "head tracking" on too.

To be honest, FPV rock-climbing is kind of a snoozer, once it starts climbing, you see mostly just wobbly sky.

(now if I can get the right link, you can ride along)

or is it ...

or, crap, maybe this link ..... (a mod' can delete the extras)

<embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid1315.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft599%2Fdr_frankenstyle%2FPunky%2520videos%2520030_zpsyo0fxucg.mp4&title=">

well, maybe I'll get it right when I put the FPV in my boat or in the Pro-Sreet F-100 (THAT will be a fun ride:D)

I love this little truck!!!! I'm glad to see is still around and kicking :)
