Trx4 best brushed motor options

I have a trx4 Defender, the motor has seized up on me twice after going in the creek, and once after playing in some dry sand. I've been able to take it apart and get it back up every time, but it's annoying. I'm looking to upgrade now and am planning on pairing with a hobbywing 1080 esc. I like having the top end speed to play around with in second gear, but would definitely appreciate some better braking and smoother throttle when crawling. What should I go with?

all brushed motors are gonna do that eventually go brushless everybody seems to really like the motor/esc combos these days

Yeah, I think I will eventually. The problem is just the price point. This is my first 1:10, and I enjoy taking it down to the creek. I'd rather replace a $25 brushed motor than a brushless.

Everything right now is stock, and I plan to only really upgrade as things break. I have a trx4m that is heavily modded, and I promised the wife I wouldn't do that with this one

Trailmaster 21t in my TRX4 Defender... actually went to a 27t when I converted it into a tow rig but prior to that was running a TM 21t and performance was spot on.

21t or 27t trailmaster
crawlmaster 12,13 or 16t depending on can size 540 or 550
when I ran brushed my bro and I always kept a spare with us on the trail ready to drop in just in case
I just gave him 2-3 esc's and 4-5 brushed motors today

I run HH Trailmaster 27T in mine with a 9T pinion.

21 for a little more wheel speed, I would definitely run that if you have a trx4 sport without the 2 speed trans. 27 has a little more low end, so if you are running larger tires or a heavier truck overall.

Just for the sake of clarity, you will have the same motor issues when running through water, sand, mud, and lava with an aftermarket motor... Running through these environments shortens the life of a motor, no matter what. Without doing maintenance immediately after running through these environments will speed up this process.

The stock motor will last for a good long while if you maintain it properly.
