Ok txt-1 stock ratio is 34 to 1. What would it be with an eight tooth pinion? I figured it to be 60 to 1. But i don't know if that is right.

I need to figure out what it is so I can figure out what ratio to use in the new crawler. The plan is to use a mag mayham to a 3.8 to 1 planitary With a 8 tooth pinion to a 72 tooth spur gear to txt-1 axles which are 2 to 1. The curant ratio is good but the new crawler will have some skinny kongs (thank for the idea dirk) so I need to get some lower gearing.

Gear Ratios:
Stock TXT with 15tooth pinion = 34:1
Stock TXT with 8tooth pinion = 63:1
Mammoth Gearbox with 13tooth pinion = 91:1 (2.69:1 Stock)
Mammoth Gearbox with 8tooth pinion = 149:1 (4.375:1 Modified)

Final crawl ratio with 8-tooth pinions is 126:1, which is slow and good but much more improvement can be made.

My Juggy runs the GD-600 reduction unit and with the 3.8:1 option(12-tooth pinion in reduction unit).. My final crawl ratio is 478:1. With it in the 2.5:1 setting(18-tooth pinion) it's at 315:1 and this is how I have it currently. Next step is to go to 245:1 by dropping in a 23-tooth pinion into the reduction unit.

To run Kongs you'll need at least 478:1 for your final ratio if you want it to crawl..... be ready to snap the pinion stub on the axles!

Mine broke and I was only running 8-tooth pinions on Mag Mayhems, no reduction unit:

A little welding and you can make new ones.... :D

great, and is it easy to put mammoth gearbox in?? it would be sweet to have gear ratio of 100 or so

It's a bolt on deal!

I have to give credit to Kona_joe, it's due to him that I know this info, here's his page.....
Check out the Page with the info

oh its from the dump truck!! Thanks very much for the info, it would be helpful to put that into articles, cause it would be great for crawlers. I already have 1/8 buggy, so i dont need more speed for now, now i want slow moving, agile moving everywhere i want!! Here where i live ( in Poland ( europe)) were working on off-road truck, it would have normal track and like trial track. Also about two days ago i phoned a guy near me, and he has TXT and crawls with couple of friends, i have to meet him, and its soo cool!!

Bastard,
I know you're going for "skinny" but keep in mind the Xfactor axles. 3:1 r/p gearing and they are up to the task of turning the Kongs.....even though you heard my ring and pinion "crunching" the other day. :oops:

I have been thinking about the x factor axles. But I have also been thinking about the txt axles and the planitarys we were talking about the other day. If you us them the way I was talking you would take most of the stress off of the rest of the drive train. :D :D

what does change when motors are run in series?? ive read somewhere that guy got about 30-40 minutes of run time, i dont know how, but it would certainly be cool

how does the mammoth reduction compare to running say mag mayhems with a 8 or 9 T pinions ran in series?

I’m running a single Mag Mayhem with the Mammoth Gearbox, my crawl ratio is @ 149:1. It has plenty of torque, good hill holding power and great runtime.

I have a problem here, ive asked my local tamiya dealer about these parts and he says most of them ( except bearings) are not in tamiya catalog, and for 4 850 bearings he wants about $25!!! whats wrong? i would like to have mammoth reduction but not for that much cash, and how else to get it? ill mail him parts list for mammoth from tamiyausa and ask whats up, but what would be different way? should i try japanese shops?

AFJ,

Where are you located? If you're in the U.S. call TamiyaUSA direct @ 800-826-4922 to order the parts. The Mammoth Gearbox is not an inexpensive option but it is a 100% bolt on.

Check out my webpage for all the details on adding a Mammoth Gearbox to a TXT.

The bearings are nothing special, you can pick up them from Tower Hobbies.
850 = 5 x 8mm
1150 = 5 x 11mm

DuraTrax 5x8mm - 2 for $3.49

DuraTrax 5x11mm - 2 for $2.99

Hope this helps,
Joe
