Want to skip the upgrade cycle, suggestions please

What gearing, rig weight? I've been weary of the lil baby packs and the pro4...

I think it's 11/58 but I can't remember for sure.
Basically the smallest pinion I could fit on the P4 and the largest spur that would fit under the Axial trans cover.
Melons weighs in just under 10lbs I think.

Don't forget a good winch. oh and if your going to get a good radio you may as well get a 2 speed tranny. I think its the AX-2 but just look up scx-10 2 speed trans and you'll find it. my bud has one that I drool all over and he beats the snot out of it. Two years running never failed him. once I get a couple hundred bucks together I am going to get the radio and trans for sure.

melons is by far my favorite scaler on this site. I need to get around to trying to build something like that.

Ya the bug is definitely an inspiration to this addiction, was contemplating doing a bug body also, had one on my old Clod Buster back in 1995 and later on my Blackfoot.

Thanks man!

The parts list I posted is basically Melon's set up... she's a beast!

Ok OP updated with suggestions from you all, ouch over $1500 so far... lol

Sounds about right. That's what I've got in mine so far.

I just stripped one of the hexes in my stock wheels. 3s Brushless power is brutal on the plastic wheels. You may want to bump that up by about $450 for tires, foams and some nice aluminum wheels and hubs. Or about $200 for aluminum wheels and hubs if you want to use the stock Ripsaws. Are you going to buy the kit? It comes with the "sticky" compound Ripsaws.

johnnyh66, From NWI? I grew up in Portage and I am fairly sure I saw my friend Ray in one of your comp pics.

I plan on buying the builders kit, not a huge fan of RTR as part of the fun is building it in the first place.

I still got some of my old stuff too its hard to get rid of it because the old rc stuff is awesome. getting into the new stuff is tough especially if you didn't stay in the hobby through the years to adapt with the technology change so the sticker shock of seeing homw much all the new school stuff costs hurts but its also a list of stuff that is proven to work, is the best bang for the buck, and it will last you a while. since im always on a budget I always look in the classifieds section for deals because there is always something in great shape and is a fraction of the cost to new. I started with a builders kit dingo kit and then with what I scored in the classifieds section I have put together a solid rig so after you have met the requirements of the site rules start digging for deals"thumbsup"
