What axles and chassis to get for the jeep jk 2dr hard body?

Hey,

I got a jeep jk 2dr hard body with the opening doors for christmas! And Im making a new truck with this body.

So I am making a list of parts I want to get for it. And I need to know what axles and chassis to get.

For the chassis I was thinking a scx10 frame, the GCM front motor mount (which I already have) ,a transfer case, and do something with the back shock towers. Or the GCM skeleton j2 rc4wd ultimate combo.

For the axles I would like the wheels to be inside the fender flares like a real jk. So what axles would fit, and what is the hex to hex width of an axle that would fit this?

I don't like the look of the scx10 axles under this body they are WAY to wide for me.

I just got some gcm terramod axles they look awesome. I got my brother some ssd d60 they look cool too. I dont have the 2 door but 183mm pin to pin with the right rim fits my 4 door pretty good.

I am running the SSD Axles, which are SCX10 width. I'm building class 2 to resemble my jeep that is just a street truck. With 1.55's and narrow offset wheels you should get what you want width wise.

I am using the GCM Skeleton2 chassis because of how will it fits and places everything inside. Also makes mounting the body easy.

I believe the rc4wd d35 axles or the k44 will go nicely with the skeleton/rc4wd ultimate combo you planning to get and should tuck under the body nicely.

But in all honesty if you can afford the GCM parts get them as from the parts that I've seen the machining is incredible.

Thats the problem I don't have a job because Im almost 15 so it would take me a long time to save up some mony to buy that. I really need to get a job:ror:

Honestly with the Canadian dollar to US dollar exchange rate and the quality of items your getting I think most their items are pretty fair or even of good value I thought (compared to say rc4wd)

This anwser is easy. Go for the skeleton chassis. For axles, use narrowed Ascender axles, or the new MST crawler axles. The MST would be cheaper, and probaly easy to sell rest of the kit to someone who want to build a Short wheelbase rig.

Not sure if you can buy just axle complete, easy to piece together or buy kit and sell what you don't need to offset cost. "thumbsup"

I'm running the dinky Rc cantilever setup in the rear, not shown in this picture

I'd take the Skeleton chassis over the SCX-10 any day for multiple reasons. I run the Skeleton Ultimate with Terramods, 90mm RRD Emulsions in front, Dinky cantis in the rear, HH Puller Pro Stubby 3300 on 3S, RC4WD Kryptons on GCM 12-spokes. It's a ridiculously capable setup that's a blast to drive.

The RC4WD axles are sweet. If they're too steep for your budget on this build, I'd definitely take the Terramods. The only issue I had was snapping the end of one of the Terramod CVDs at the locker. Maybe it's my fault for running a setup that can pop a standing wheelie. :twisted: I put in a set of RC4WD Wraith XVDs trimmed to the proper width and have been fine ever since.

Glad that Jato and I can go back to disagreeing, lol.

Notice I mounted my cantis outside the rails instead of inside. That allowed me to use a Delrin plate for chassis stiffness, a battery pack location, and a bracket for screws to attach the chassis to the body.
