Pretty much as title says what do you guys use for winch line? I jus installed a bulldog wireless winch and needless to say the steel line that came on it already is fraying. What do you guys use I was thinking about trying out spider wire fishing line.

im completely new here as well. Why is line fraying?
I want to use braid for a tow rope also but it will snap if anything rubs against under pressure. Just a heads up

From rubbing on rocks when I had it hooked to my pull pal hooked to the top of my rig. My braided tow rope has yet to shred a piece of thread off of it and it rides the same as how I had my winch line when I have it out.

I believe you just answered your own question. Braided fishing line works great, I use about 50 lb strength and it has never broken. Make sure to get a good knot on there and double up around your winch hook or etc. Dyneema winch line/synthetic line works great as well! You can find other kinds of cable too that will fit your needs.

I use LockedUpRC syntethic line on my rig. I actually just did a review of it for a contest they are having, which you can read by clicking here, and if you like it please vote for me by voting in this RCC thread here...you can even win stuff by voting! (yes that is a shameless plug for myself to get more votes)

hijack over. :ror:

EDIT: You can buy some here: Winch Line

you can buy a whole roll of 1mm dyneema/spectra braid on eBay and Amazon for like $10-20 and have enough to do several winches. or support the RCC vendors "thumbsup"

I use the same stuff but you can go buy braided fishing line.

Thanks wilby I was gonna get some spider wire and see how that holds up. I use that for steel head/salmon fishing and have yet to ever break a line (on accident) with that stuff. And sorry ramination there's a guy in our local club that is also in that contest so goes without saying I already voted for him. But I do like your write up. I may look into locked ups winch lines as well.

I use 200lb test bow fishing line. MUCH cheaper than 200 lb test rod fishing line. It's pretty small diameter. Smaller than the orange string you get a Home Depot anyway. I think I got about 10ish feet on a sewing bobbin. I made some nice tow straps out of it too.

Some good ideas here. Baja where do you get that high of test pound bow fishing line? I've only used like 60-70# line.
