I was wondering what a BEC was for and do you need one to have the big battery running the motor but a small pack just for the reciever?

It stands for Battery Elimination Circuit. What it does is allow you to run your receiver and servos off your "main" pack, without having to run a seperate receiver pack.

Generally, most all speed controls have this feature built-in. For crawlers, you'll ideally want to find one that can delever a good amount of amps to provide enough power to your servos.

You can also get seperate units (such as the Castle Creations BEC) that do the same thing.

ya i've been seaching and reseaching for the last three weeks about crawlers so sorry if i still have some questions.:-(
