Quarry Creeper
I know this question has been asked a lot as I've read probably every thread asking this question from the last 3 years, but I wanted some responses specific to my rig.
I have a Redcat Everest 10 (Ax10 scorpion clone) that I've been building up over the last 2 or 3 months in the 2.2 shafty comp crawler style (not competing with it though). Pertinent details are it has Pitbull rockbeast II tires and weighs around 6 pounds with a little over 60% of the weight on the front tires. I've modified the vehicle slightly to increase steering throw and may increase it more in the future (I'm at least toying with the idea of doing the XR steering mod). I use the vehicle mainly for recreational rock crawling, but my driving style hasn't been that hard on the vehicle thus far.
I'm still using the stock servo, but it is only rated at 125 oz-in of torque, and it can't turn the tires lock to lock at a standstill on a high traction surface. Thus I'm looking for a higher torque servo that also would work with any future mods. How much torque should I shoot for? Is there any substantial downside to a higher torque servo?
I also want a servo that is reasonably reliable. When I started researching this I was figuring to get a more budget minded option like the Solar D772 (afterall the whole RTR vehicle only cost $135 and most of my upgrades have been more budget minded), but it seems reviews on most of the cheaper servos are hit or miss in terms of reliability. I'm at least considering a higher cost option like the promodeler 5420 or some of the hitec servos. What servo do you recommend and why?
FYI I do plan on running an external BEC once I sort out what servo I'll get.
