What shocks to get?

TRX4 GTS Shocks and Springs

I put together some part#'s for you all.

This shock features an 11mm diameter shock body, and is approximately 90mm long at full extension and 65mm long when compressed, delivering 25mm of travel !

Pair of GTS shocks #8260
.......or, look on ebay. A brand new set of 4 with springs from a "take-off" ran me $46.00 "thumbsup"

And at $6.00 for a pair of springs, tuning the ride won't break the bank.

Standard spring rates that come on the TRX4

no stripe .45 #8041 (Front)
green stripe .54 #8040 (Rear)

Option spring rates

yellow stripe .22 #8042
white stripe .30 #8043
orange stripe .39 #8044
blue stripe .61 #8045

Great info on the GTS shocks! Will the stock 10.2 springs fit?

Do the SCX10.2 springs (Axial 12.5x60mm) fit on the TRX4 shocks?

Yes, they do...

Side by side Traxxas GTS and Axial Icon (10.2 Kit). Springs on both are from the 10.2 kit....

After watching some SCX10 videos with the BB on, i think they red springs may be too stiff for a crawler.

Red ones are definitely too stiff
Depending on rig weight I suggest the mini Losi springs , you would love them IMHO!
Good Alternative are the Losi gold or black depending on rig weight though the mini Losi are the best suit.

I can also vouch for the trx4 shocks. I’ve tried numerous aftermarket shocks and I have to say I like the trx4s the most.

Hey guys, I’m about to buy my first crawler. I think I’ve decided on the SCX10 II kit. I know the shocks will be the first things I upgrade but I’m so confused. I see the big bores mentioned but they require serious modding correct? What about the TRX-4 socks? Do they fit without modification? What springs do I use? I see Mini-T springs suggested. Which ones? Any mods required to get them to fit? Thanks for the help. This is all very overwhelming.

Big bores do not require modding, if you run the short 94mm version. Trx4 shocks aka Gts shocks are a drop in replacement, and Scx springs work on them.

Thanks for the info!

From my research, Big Bores were the way to go up until the TRX4 came out. In my group, GTS shocks are now the upgrade shock of choice.

After experimenting with red and yellow Axial springs on my RBK, I prefer green up front and white at the back, with 15w 104cst Losi shock oil.

Like LC says, bolt right on, better than oem.
