What's the answer to Enduro shocks leaking constantly

Has anyone figured out a cure for the ever leaking enduro shocks? I've tried lubing O rings with shock oil....no help...also tried green slime...no help. Is there anything that actually stops the leaking? I've got a couple traxxas vehicles and those shocks don't leak.... WTH !!! :oops:
 
hmm. Does the RTR use the same shocks as the kit? My kit shocks don't seem to be leaking a drop.

The kit shocks have nicely machined aluminum bodies, and nice shock shafts, so if the RTR uses the same shock components and they leak, I'd have to think it's due to the o-rings, either their size, or their quality. With an RTR, who knows how they were assembled, but it's not likely that care was taken to prevent knicks in the o-rings when they were assembled. If you haven't done it yet, I'd try rebuilding the shocks with new o-rings and making sure that they and the shock shaft are well coated in green slime during assembly. If they still leak, try finding a slightly thicker o-ring to replace the originals.
 
My RTR leak pretty legit, but it hasn’t affected their performance much...or, lol, I can’t tell the difference. Cleaned, slimed, and added 50wt to the fronts this last weekend...no weeping yet but too soon to tell. FWIW.
 
Strange! I haven’t had any leaking problems but if it’s new I’d suggest contact element rc and they’ll likely get you sorted out.

Otherwise try a rebuild kit as without flaws in the parts or assembly they shouldn’t leak in stock form.
 
Probably O-rings, then, at least in my case. Lots of miles on this rig. Will get another set when I can justify the shipping. Likely an easy fix.

Well if you do go for new rings you could try the X-rings that fit.

The shocks I installed these on haven't leaked though they havent been installed on anything yet so that doesn't mean much :mrgreen:. The shocks I've run with the stock O-rings have leaked a little, not full on Axial leakage though.

LMAO! And if I ordered those red O-rings, somewhat prematurely, it would seem...any odds on them fitting a wee bit perfectly tighter in Axial shocks, so they can have some purpose, rather than sitting here unused in perpetuity?

I guess I have to at least try the red rings first, gussied up with slime and thick oil...but this thing you’re telling us, I love it 100%.
 
Builders error.
Yo cannot torque the caps down.
Green slime, proper fill amount, tighten by hand until tight.
If you over tighten they pinch the o ring and leak. Brad Geck passed that on.

The shocks on my RTR have not leaked a drop since it was new. I did take them apart and rebuild them with Green Slime right from the start though.

Thanks for x-ring part number Humboldt!"thumbsup" I will be replacing the stock o-rings with these when the time comes to do an oil change.
 
I have rebuilt them twice... but used the original O rings since they were new... btw it is a RTR model. Thanks for the feedback!! It has to be the O rings.... I'll have to try the optional ones suggested.
Maybe some of you guys are running thicker shock oil than I am --- I'm running stock 30W so far. They are kinda like one of my old cars ..... fill the oil and check the gas LOL Thanks again for all suggestions!
I may also be guilty of over tightening... will watch out for that also. I am amazed though that some of yours aren't leaking at all.... I remember some guys on opening their RTR models had shock leaks in the box before even using the thing???

X-rings and slim are what I like to use, however my kit Enduro shocks are built with just slim and stock 30wt fluid. When I go to tune, I'll switch out to the X-rings and can tell already, a slightly heavier oil.
