For me:
It's just to have at hand.. Cutting a tag, thread, package open, work, utility, hunting, fishing, fishing line wrapped in my RC axle (lol), camping, hiking, etc..

I have carried a knife since my late grandfather got me my first one when I was 8.
I've always had a enjoyment for blades.

Personally, I've never went for a knife, for personal defense. Not towards a human, anyways.. Not that I don't practice in that manner, if it ever needed to go that way.

My knives are all for utility. Never know when you need to slash open a box of RC parts.

Pistol is for protection. Better to have it and never need it than to need it and not have it.
