what's your shock length and brand preferences

I run the inexpensive Traxxas ( T/E Maxx ) 100mm big bores.
They can be found/purchased for $ 25. for four

I feel they work purdy good.
rebuilding is simple...
and Traxxas BB re-seal kits are inexpensive as well.

Mine are the original plastic bodied CO's
But they are also available in alloy if one wants that. ( mo' $ )

I run the Losi white coil springs (2.75") on mine.

^ there is also a grey 2.75" C spring that Losi offers.
and it is rated lighter ( 1.6lb ) then their white C spring.
part # is likely... 5146

I use the Traxxas cheapo snap in pre-load shims
on mine where needed.

Both upper and lower spring seats
fit fine with the Losi coil spring diameter.

I maintain my suspension ride height setting somewhat squat
50/50 up/down travel.

The 2.75" Losi coil springs
have always remained positioned in both their upper and lower seats.

Gravity and time are not consumable friendly...
So... to insure my springs do not settle prematurely...
I always store my rig on a chassis supported stand.

Where have you been finding them so cheap. I did a quick google search and can only find them in the 50 dollar range. What about the losing springs. Can you get like a variety set. Think you could link me to em.

I found them listed on ebay...
RC Recycler has them occasionally.

The $ 50. price you found...
is that for 8 or 4 ?
The T/E Maxx came with 8 originally...
so many sell them in the original lot of 8
But I have found them split up in pairs of four.

So purchase the lot of 8...
then sell the extra 4 and reduce your cost.
Keep in mind... there are alloy and plastic versions.
The alloy being somewhat more costly.

I haven't looked much as of late...
because I also have a set of eight 4" Associated alloy CO's
designed by Associated for use on the T/E Maxx.
Actually, they are still mounted on my never run
1st gen. T-Maxx... that has become a shelf queen.
Or should I say dust queen !?

As far as the Losi coil springs...
I have not seen them available in a multi-pak.
So I'd doubt that exists.

check these out...

another set

^ they're out there... if ya look.

they look too big on most 1.9 scalers.
true 'dat...

tho' I don't think they look super gianormous
but I'm more into performance, then solely scale perfection.
And these BB's can be easily/cheaply tuned to performance perfection !

overkill... 'cuz I'm rolling class 1 rubbers

Aluminum Traxxas big bores, with purple Axial springs and 30wt. Fronts are uptravel limited to keep the tires out of the hood. No preload spacers and though fully sprung my 6lb rig sits about 75% droop.

Sure they might not be scale under most builds, but i run them cause they are durable and work good. On my KOH inspired 1.9 Raptor, they simply look like larger 3.0 or 4.0 coilovers found on high end 1:1s.

RC4WDs Kings would look awesome under this build, but I cant have 90 bucks worth of shocks that only really look good.

G-made XD 103's on my titan.

Ordered mine today got 8 for under 20.00 and went and bought the losi springs you recommended. Cant wait to try em out and get up some pics"thumbsup"

Proline scaler shocks for the scx10

They work flawless and I wouldn't see any reason to stray away from them.
I believe I have about 8 pairs now, my 1.9 scx10 and 1.9 scx 6x6 are fitted with them.

congratulations on your find

please report back and let us know how they're working for you

if you have further inquiry regarding their set up...
feel free to PM me and I would share with you, what I know.

Sorry for the slow update on the shocks, setup, and opinion. I've had a bit of a setback but in a good way. The fiancé surprised me with a set of black curries and a red stage 1 kit so theres been a lot of building join on on my rig. I did get the traxxas BB's and white loss springs in and i like the way they feel but seem a little tight by hand. TacoCrawler, do you know approximately what weight oil is in them factory and what you would think would be a good idea to run in them on a 1.9 rig in the 6-10lb range?

Big bores for me on all my slow moving rigs. I like the shorter, "long", ones for a 1.9. Mini T springs and jeepin doug or Dlux cups. I like my shocks to move fast on my 6 lbs scalers. I think I have 20wt in the fronts and 15wt in the rear on most of the rigs. One more tip, drill out the top for a traxxas ball end. Cant remember which drill it is at the moment. If you don't mind the extra length even better is the "shock cap mod." So many times I see where guys have binding on the shock tops....not good.

If y'all havent tried the RPM dual stage pistons in big bores, they are amazing for a rig that sees any sort of speed. But they are butter smooth on slower rigs too.
Takes a few hours to get them installed and tuned but way worth it. My jeepspeed with that setup installed is the best performing scaler to date. It's 7lbs.

I'll have to remember that....I love the BB 4" shock ...run them in everything I have. I like the Losi mini T springs and if I want a little stiffer spring I've found a Durratrax spring that fits well and looks good, silver or green for the slightly heavier rigs...30-40 wt oil with the stock pistons..."thumbsup" great shocks never leak...

I can't remember the weight used on the T/E Maxx...
but I thought it was maybe 40wt.

I dumped mine out from the start...
and put fresh oil in... so that I'm sure of it's weight.

I've been running 20wt synthetic, 3 hole piston Ft/Rr
my chassis is at about 8 - 9 lbs (and getting fatter)
My shock values reflect the tuning I wanted for slow crawling.
which IMO... offers the most realistic scale chassis/suspension movement.
I did not tune my BB's for jumping nor hauling butt.
I'd choose another rig for doing that ;-)

* many folks overly damp their CO's for any real scale ride/appearance..
I personally dislike the bouncy toy ride.
Some choose not to use any oil damping at all...
And instead will solely lubricate the O-ring seals.

I prefer a more controlled damping...
but it should be lite enough that the chassis
will reset to level after getting twisted up.

An overly damped CO...
will tend to leave the chassis at off angle
and not rebound fully to it's set ride height.
More preload may be used to compensate...
But a stiffer suspension is not advantages IMO.

recently I've added a heavy front bumper/winch/lights...
so I may bump the front shock weight up to 25wt
or maybe even 30wt if I can't find the 25wt.

With my added bumper weight and soon to be thicker oil weight...
I thought I might need to add a little preload to the springs...
But so far... I'm purdy happy with my suspensions ride height/articulation and movement.

I don't really like this mini-T spring set up...

reason being... it would limit up travel when compressed fully.

ie: as the coil spring is compressed with the shock's shaft.
the coil spring will compress upon itself...
whence that occurs...
the shock's compression travel is limited.

^ might be valuable if compression limitations were wanted.

I've got all versions of the Axial shocks for the SCX. They just plain suck, all of them. Poo performance, sloppy feeling and they all leak badly. It's a shame Axial...

On my Wraith I run Traxxas Bigbores. For the price I couldn't be happier with them. My SCX still has the stock Icons. I've decided to go with 3,5" Bigbores again or possibly Pro-Line.

Losi comp shocks for my set up..butter smooth, no leaks (no green slime used) and the greatest assortment of accurate losi springs..( using 1.8lb front and rear) I did however limit the 100 mm of travel down to 93mm...15 w t associated/Lucas oil and did my own piston mods.
