Which is the best low-budget crawler?

i want to buy myself a rock crawler for two reasons: rock crawling and for a platform for my off-road robot! The problem with the AX10 is, that it has no diffs, resulting in a large turning circle, which is quite impractical for robots. On the other hand, ax10 rtc is a bit cheaper, but I would really like to upgrade it to full aluminum, so the end cost is about the same (btw I live in Slovenia, where everything is a 1000000 times more expensive than in the US). I also want to build stuff, that's why I like the creeper, but I have ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE with RCs what so ever! Does anybody know, what's the turning circle of the ax10 RTC?... :S Still very confused...!

yeah it's even more expensive than the creeper + it has 2 motors, which is again a bit more difficult for robots... thanks for the help anyway

Get the RTC. They have spider gears you can put in the diffs to open them back up if you wish.

the rtc is pretty much the plastic parts off the rtr but they are beefier. also it comes with axials better esc and 55t motor now. plus the tires and foams from the artr. its a solid setup and pretty capable with very little mods.

and a stronger servo too i belive"thumbsup"

cheap rtr crawler

You might want to look into redcat racings crawlers. They have a 1/10 rtr with 4 wheel steering for $200 and a super class for around $264 I think. Check them out at redcatracing.com . Good luck

creeper = no cheap plastic parts to break and not spendding $$ to upgrade to the intial quality of the creeper out of the box. For about $50.00 more than the cheap plastic axial rtc or rtr, you'd being quality rig and esc, motor and electronics

The only thing is that its a kit, he has never owned a rc before.

I would think that if someone builds robots, they should very well be able to build an rc car. I got my first rc kit when I was 9 and was able to finish it and it was a nitro (rc10). If you can read and follow instructions building a kit truck is cake. I have never owned an ax10 or creeper, but one that no one mentioned is the HPI Wheely King, its not as competition ready as the ax10 or creeper though.

oh building is no problem for me (i was building 12+ Lego kits when i was 6...), however, this will be my first rc, and i just can't decide about all these motors and esc and batteries and tires and... you know... it can be a bit confusing for a novice... thanks for help everybody! keep replying!

and the problem with the wheely king is, that is quite expensive to upgrade it to a crawler. you can buy the crawler king, but it doesn't look right you know... another advantage with the creeper are locking diffs - i will be able to unlock them to do all the robot stuff and lock them when i will do rc crawling. my robot really needs a small turning radius and diffs are very important for that... i'm 99% sure that i'm going to go with the creeper!

You can save some money by getting re-manufactured electronics from Novak. They come with the same warranty as new. I have bought 5 motors/ESCs from them now, and they all looked like new.
