what servo for steering would be good for me?
i have a SSD Trail King, planing to run either 2s lipo or nimh.

it is very important that it is a silent one, and maybe it should be water proof.
other than that, i dont know. like how powerful it would have to be, how fast is enough for a trail truck and stuff like that.

i would prefer Futaba because i have one in a drift car, and it is very nice and silent, and i can get Futaba stuff at my local hobby shop. but i am also open to other brands too.

At that voltage the nsdrc RS1 will be tough to beat, it’s a beast, not a budget servo though and also not in stock at the moment but expected this week or next. The rs800v2 is a solid option as well but you’d be leaving a lot of performance on the table with only a 2s battery. Both are quiet servos.

Other than that, maybe you can find a used Holmes hv500v2, those are quiet and perform great at that voltage. The v3 is killer also but not really quiet and wants more voltage. The shv800 looks like a great servo as well, and I’ve heard it’s quiet, but similar to the rs800v2 and the hhv3, you’d really want more voltage to get the most out of it. Holmes doesn’t recommend 2s on his website for either servo.

You’ll get a lot of different answers on how fast and strong a servo needs to be. I personally wouldn’t want less than 400 oz. and slower than 0.16 but the faster and stronger they are the more I like them. Once you use a powerhouse servo it’s tough to go back.

If you want something cheap and that will work well enough and be quiet maybe snag a 35kg off Amazon. Always some jx servos to roll the dice on but I’ve had mixed experiences with those.

Big question, why 2S?

I would STRONGLY suggest direct power.

My NSDRC RS800 V2 and 3Bros G13 are quiet, My son has a HHV2 that has been great but not as powerful as the NSDRC. I recently bought another HH servo and it worked great for about 10 minutes. It has been back at HH since the May 26 and no word on it.

As I play around with things I have found the 3Bros does not have nearly as much throw as some other servos. I got the G13 over a year ago from a friend who is not easy and equipment on it hasn't skipped a beat. I have only had the NSDRC a short time but at this point I like it MUCH better than all my other servos. It as allot of through, fast and powerful.

I have had a few Savox's, they work fine for a bit but as yo sue them they loose their power.

I would run the highest cell I could. It doesn't only help you with speed but also with torque.

A couple batteries on amazon isn't that much money.

I would not consider going lower than 3s. Steering is a big deal to me. I like to crawl ad do comps so powerful tight steering is a must for me.

the SRT Racing DHW25 isnt waterproof, but have some water resistance i was told by the shop.
i dont plan to run in water/wet but i do want to be water proof or at least some water resistant should it happen.

As far as I know, you can only get them shipped from china (Banggood or Aliexpress). I'd order one, but I don't wanna wait for it to be shipped, and I can't find any good proof of their performance on YouTube or anything.

The mountain won't shut up about them, but that's not enough proof for me yet.

I'll stick with expensive Protek Black Label servos that have tons of power, and are very quiet.

Update on my Holmes Hobbies servo I mentioned above. I have one that has worked flawlessly for over a year. On that lasted 10 minutes but kicked ass while it work.

I went on HH site and within a day I had a shipping label, With in about a week of that (including Memorial day weekend) that had an update saying they are sending me a new one, and it should be here by tomorrow.

Poop happens but HH has stepped up and taken care of it.

personally i think the SRT W45 looks like a better option than the SRT DHW25 (specs) i looked at first.

Exactly a powerful servo can pick up your RC and help it climb. It can mover you right or left to get on a line just by wiggling it.

On the topic of torque, here’s a visual of why I prefer a strong servo. This is on 3s lihv so there’s somewhere around 900+ oz/inch of muscle doing work. You can see the rs800v2 really throwing the truck around, in a good way, to keep it going where it’s pointed.
