why do I keep destroying axial upgrade hardened hd bevel gear sets?

Running them in the proper direction, the bevel gears interlock when used in the proper direction, not so much if ran backwards.
 
Front Overdrive. Front only is problem. Gear mesh correct. Bearings are good. I just installed stock ratio brand new. My wheels are weighted, alot, and i believe it started with too much traction and 100% drag on mmp. I now have mmp set at 40% drag and brand new set of gears. Tried to shim it with a thin washer to tighten up mesh but it was too thick so i took it back off. Mesh is good. I think im just an idiot running 100% drag on carpet and concrete.
 
Is this run alot on hard surfaces? Does it chatter when it is run on concrete? If gears are different in rear this could be part of the reason....just a thought....

The front od is not so good with big power and drag brake.. I ran 60% drag and ruined 2 sets.
I have lightened Slw's and knuckle weights on mine. Its just barely 7lbs rtr with a 3300mah 3s.
I just ruined some stock gears(cause its what I had). Now I'm replacing the front with some stock ratio HD gears as well. Ud in the rear, never had a issue.

I believe some of my problem comes from the relentless abuse, nose dives at full throttle, and bashing thru the woods and rocks.

Were any of the ring gear screws loose from the diff when you pulled the diff out? It can be am issue as well

Everything tight. I think its just me bashing and driving like a moron with too much drag brake.
 
How often are you going through gears? With high power I'm finding 5 hours of hard runtime is about all I get running 2650 watts ive recently dropped to a 800watt motor and my front over drives are looking good after a few hours run time.

I run 100% drag brake for crawling and zero for bashing
 
Pinion bearings while they may spin fine will begin to wear causing radial thrust. This will allow the pinion to thrust under power causing the pinion to push away from the ring gear and wipe out the teeth. Improper shimming or lack of will allow for axial thrust on the pinion effectively pushing it towards the housing allowing only the end to mesh as well as increase the slop in the mesh damaging the gears.. worn bearings or bushings and or improper shimmimg on the ring gear carriers will result in much of the same.

Bevel gears dont care which direction they are run in. The gears are straight cut.
Direction of rotation is more important on helical cut gears
 
Your problem is the massive amount of weight in the wheels. Take it all out and use knuckle weights. That will definitely fix your problem.
 
If you are running plastic housings I highly suggest replacing them with a new set, plastic is fine. These housings seem to soften up and begin to flex over time. Once they do it once, you'll see it over and over. Replace the case I a would put money down that your problem stops.

I would try this. That weight adds a lot of stress.

I have replaced my bearings once or twice.

Ditto! I run a tekin 17.5 on 3s with like 40% drag brake and I have the HD axial bevel gears and have no problems. I also don't run any extra weight what so ever since my rig already weighs in at 9 pounds. In my ax10 scorpion I have some wight in the wheels and a 45t motor with stock gears and have had no problems. Now that I say that they'll probably blow up! :flipoff: But yeah, take out the weight in the wheels, try it out like that, and then if you want to try knuckle weights. "thumbsup"
