Why Hyperion?

I notice a lot of people endorse the Hyperion Ac/Dc charger for around $129 for a beginner's charger. I think the model number is 0606i? Is it that much better than the Thunderpower or Turnigy that others on this site say are good. The Thunderpower AC6 is around $55 and the Turnigy Accucell 6 is only $35 plus a power supply. Why pay over $70 more for the Hyperion? Or is better to buy the Thunderpower or Turnigy and put the extra money towards the truck? They all seem like they do the same stuff and will meet my needs for Lipo charging and storing.

I am looking to charge 2s and 3s for a crawler that I will be buying soon.

I was after a Hyperion for a while. Used they seem to go for $60 -80 if you can get to it quick. I missed a few deals and bought the SkyCharger B6AC+ from hobby partz. I love it. Charges my crawler Lipos very well and it was to my door in 3 days.

It came with a USB connection forthe computer for additional data and a temp sensor as well.

We sell the Hyperion because we feel it is the best all around charger/balancer on the market. All the charger you have listed may do the job, but the hyperion does it with precision! What I mean is the Hyperion will charger just about anything you can hook up to it! It is also AC/DC and you don't need a extra power supply. The balancer on the Hyperion is a better balancer as well. The cheaper chinese made balancer will only balance the cells within a +-5% of each other where as the hyperion does this within .5%! This could really cut down on the life of your lipos and cost you more money in the long run! Plus the Hyperion is user friendly!! Oh we have them in stock for 129.95...

I would recommend the 0606i, love mine. It could be a little more expensive from finish/design, and whats actually inside. It's worth the extra cash IMO.

When I was looking for a charger last year I asked the local club members what they suggested and it was a unanimous vote for the Hyperion. I bought one and have not regretted it at all.

any charger that says it can do lipos will do the job. i know people charging lipos on $30 chargers. however with as dangerous as lipo batteries can be, do you really want to risk your batteries, rig, work area, car, or your house to a cheap chinese charger??

i myself am waiting for my hyperion to show up at my lhs.

When I switched to lipos I read how good the Hyperion charger was, But now that I have one Im not so sure. Its been sent in for warranty repiar three times (in less than 6 months) and the last time I was refused repair. So I bought a venom charger from the lhs so far so good

I think as long as you use a quality charger made by a respectable company you will be fine, but for the money the Hyperion is not a bad deal compared to some of the others brands.

Just remember, you get what you pay for! IMHO.

I went with the Triton EQ charger from Tower. Same price as the Hyperion, comes with an extra balance board but only charges up to 5amps where the Hyperion charges up to 6amps. My theory was that I won't use a battery over 5000maH so that wasn't a disadvantage "thumbsup" I'd be willing to bet Great Planes has a better customer service department than Hyperion though

Same here. After reading about Hyperion service, or the lack there of, I went with the Triton EQ and couldn't be happier.

The hyperion chargers do have good quality, but I have seen a few more returns in the last year than I would typically expect. The Turnigy accucel chargers are good for the price, but have varying quality and practically no support if you have issues. The triton EQ is a great one too, along with the venom charger.

I will say that hyperion chargers are built stout compared to just about every other brand. A bit bigger, better heatsinking, solid buttons, easy controls, and they run cooler.

I saw the Venom Pro charger at the local hobby shop and that thing is TINY! Also another good option "thumbsup"

I bought a cheap Turnigy balance charger from hobbyking. It has worked flawlessly for over a year now. Some people feel better when they spend more money. I don't.

I also still have my MRC Superbrain from a decade ago, and that charges my stick packs and transmitter batteries just fine.

Drunk

And I have multiple turnigy chargers and balancers that don't work so accurately, and my MRC superbrain would not stop charging once you started it

Everything produced no matter what is, some will have issues. We have just found Hyperions to be fewer and far between! Great product and we stand behind it!

Why not? They make a great charger. Sure it costs a bit more, I paid almost 400 bones for my turbo back in the day. For the extra cost, you get the support that you wont get with some other manufacturers (Ordering from China). More accurate voltages, and you will have a product with name recognition. With that being said, I ordered two of the thunder power AC6's (Trinity sells this same charger for $160.00)from hobbypartz, saved some coin and have been happy with my chargers. If I didn't need two chargers I would have bought the Hyperion charger.
I would say the biggest plus with the Hyperion chargers is you can get them that will charge at 10 amps! If you are only running a low Mah Lipo for crawling this isn't going to do you much good unless you charge larger packs greater then 1C. But if you have quality lipos in the 5000 Mah range and have the ability to charger them at 2C or 10 amps you will cut your charger time in half.

Is the Turnigy and the Thunderpower basically the same charger? I know one is Ac/Dc and one is just Dc and you have to buy a seperate power supply. What I mean is are they the same charger just rebranded? I did a search and I think I remember reading a post that stated they were.

Thanks for the info

Turnigy, thunder AC6, Venom, Trinity, Imax B6, etc are basicly the same charger internals. Just rebranded. Venom and trinity have better customer support (USA). Those two are basicly 100.00 more than the thunder AC6 Imax B6 or the Turnigy! Hope this helps!

I bought a 0606I and it stopped working on me so I sent it in for a replacement and a week after I got the replacment it stopped to. I will never buy a 0606I again. I now have the tp-610C and its great except it doesnt have AC/DC charging. I just took the power supply out of the 0606I and hooked the tp up and it works just fine and I heard the 0606I have to be sent to europe to be repaired to.

Your killin me. I bought the eos0606i and I thought it was perfect. Now Im a little worried. I came from the nitro world and a total newb to electric and lipo. Hope I didnt blow it with this charger. I have only used it about 8 times with no issues yet. How many charges before you had issues?
