Why Memory foams?

Ok, memory foams. I know what they do, I'm just not seeing the point to them. I don't understand how the truck benefits. The reason I ask, is I'm running airtight rims on my scaler, cut geolander foams in the front and no foams in the rear. It works well, but I need something in the rear to keep the Crushers from flopping all around.

The benefit I noticed is there's less rebound from memory foam when compared to stock foams. This allows the tire to confirm around a rock instead of a typical foam pushing some of the tread away from the rock. And when that part of the tire is off the rock, the foams will go back to it's round shape.

Like I said, this is from my experience or view of it.
If anyone else has input as to 'why memory foam', I'd like to hear it too.

Memory foams make the tires less bouncy and keep them from hopping all over the place. Simple test, take one wheel/tire with memory foam and one with normal foam and drop them from the same height. You will notice a big difference in the way they react when they hit the ground.

"thumbsup"memory foam gives a less bouncy ride and like they said conforms to the rocks and stays that way pretty much

as for the bounce i get it but you crawler shouldnt ever really be off the ground high enough to matter? on my scale i do bounce an inch maxx when i loose traction but other than that i see that it will form much better to the rock than standard foams. me my self for the small performace diff ill stick to standard foams they dont wear out as fast as memory in water of just regular bashing. just my opinion though:?

I haven't had a problem with foams wearing out. Wierd.

If your crawler has never had bouncing issues, you need more power..

I like the foams, another advantage is no cutting experiments. Just stuff them in.

The way I think about it is a coil over shock. Normal foams are like a coil over shock with no fluid making it bouncy. Memory foams are like a coil over shock with fluid, damping out some of those bumps. And just like shock oil, memory foam too is affected by temperature change except the two are negatively affected by opposite temperatures. Memory foam performance declines in cold temperatures and shock oil performance declines in warm temperatures. Thats kind of beside the point but it went with my analogy

So, if I'm running no vented wheels they aren't gonna do much different than a normal foam.

not speaking from experience, but I think this is probably true. at least the difference wouldn't be as noticeable

A crawler usually hops in two circumstances. first, the less common having to gun it off a short drop to keep it from front flipping by trying to crawl the decent. and second, the more common circumstance of giving it some wheelspeed on a steep climb the wheels will want to bounce up and back keeping you from climbing and usually flipping you backwards.
