why shouldn't I get the XR10? beats the alternative?

I just thought I'd throw in my little tidbit about gears/bearings.

I compete with my XR10. I am NOT easy on it. Been to Nationals, 1 1/2 Seasons of Club Comps and 4 other Major Comps.

I have a set of RC4WD Gears sitting here in my toolbox....

I simply did Avid bearings, 8mm (stock size, didn't even do the 9mm mod) and it held up just fine.

I did also upgrade to a VP Motor Plate and Cases, but I didn't "need" too.

The bearings are the main failure point, but really, I read all these threads saying you have to do 9mm, cases etc etc. I ran just fine and HARD with ONLY Avid stock sized bearings.

For what it's worth, enjoy :)

hey bb i was thinking of going with the same motors as well. u going with 45t? thats what i am getting. about the vid i will try my best to find it but i dont promise anything

meffie, ya know I knew it. guys get to reading these forums and cant think for themselves. Hey - I've done it too.

I got the larger Avid bearings - but really like the idea on not drilling/dremeling the plate.

Glad to hear your story.

Krawler. Thanks for the link to the video. not sure - Imay just buy a few small lipos.

I think I may go 35T. Not sure why really. Gotta start somewhere.
Got any pics of your rig??

You're close mudd. got my FXR for $50 - not $100. No dig. 2 - Holmes sports motors are $64 (likely the ones I'll go with). When I was looking at AX10 rtc they were $270 - never saw any for $219. Don't worry - guaranteed I'll be under $400. I've got some tricks up my sleeve too - you'll see when I'm finished.

krawler - dude - I need to check that out. what did you search on on youtube. I thought I had seen every XR10 video on there.

BTW - Tower is shipping my replacement XR10 today that UPS lost. They were right on top of it. Great Customer Service.

Well personaly, I've had bad luck buying used electronics. I hope you can do a good build under $400 "thumbsup". It'll give me hope lol

As big as I can fit. Gonna wait to see what kind of room I have after all electronics goes in. I'm think maybe 1500 max.

Just got a Hobbico CS-170 servo (333oz torque at 6V) for $45. So all that is left are the 2 motors and BEC.

SO now I am $237 + $45 for the CS-170 = $282. Expecting the 2 Holmes Sportsman motors and CCBEC to run $85. So I should be at $367.

the only thing about the servo is i dont think they have aluminum servo horns for them thats why i am getting a hitec servo

From my understanding it is the exact same as the Hitec with a Hobbico label. Even if it is not - it has to be 24 or 25 tooth spline and they make alum servo horns for both.

Damn, I was gonna order the CC BEC and 2 motors from Holmes Hobbies. They will program the BEC output for like $3. BUT THEY ARE OUT.

x2 !

I also think alot of people is tightening the case screws that hits the spool bearings, way to much.. Making them hit the bearing, or atleast bulking the plastic bearing seat.. This way you make the gear lash even worse than necessary..

I cut my screws shorter after seeing what they did on the bearing seat, even with a light hand..

Got a CCBEC already programmed to 6V output for $15 (yea - no castle link required). Total spent to date $282 +$15 = $297. All thats left are 2 of Holmes Sport motors.
