here it is i have widened the axles and tubes to equal the width of a clod buster with thundertech adapters and offset tmaxx wheels now i can run the maxx wheels without offset flush to the hex and be the same width. why? griz and ace know its all about steering. get the tires over the knuckles and steering is improved.

Nice!

I went home and started drawing it up in Pro/e  Since I've been a CAD designer I can't do anything w/o drawing it first...You bang it out in two weeks.

What did you use to lengthen the plastic clod axle tube?

Looks like you welded the axles? Let us know how it holds up...

Well we were not gona show the new Clod Wide Glide untill after it was finished. But sence great minds think at the same time. Hear is BBY's version.

here it is the axle tubes were widened with steel tubing so i could weld on the link tabs. the tabs are at the original location of the inside link mounting surface if that makes sense it looks rough but all i have is a dremel, hand saw and a 110v mig w/o inert gas. dont worry trusses are on the way and a new servo position.

Nice werk J to the C, I knew one of you guys was gonna get to it before I had time. :flipoff:  Like you said, steering is the last big issue on these rigs and this should take care of that.
How did you hold the ends of the axle to the metal tube? JB Weld? I caint wait to see it in action. 8)

Randy, we talked about doing it with extensions like you did. I think that is a more cost effective method for production. Nice werk on yours. Again, I hope to see it in action soon. 8)

I have another variation planned, guess I better get to werk before someone beats me to that idea. 8O 8)

We at first thought we would do it the same way as jtothec, but we wanted to use Jumbo Kongs and wanted more stringht (No slip or twist). The jumbos will look better when the Narrowed.

Nice work man. I thought to do that but I was going to use pvc tubing, what are you using ? it looks like steel tubes to me. It will work I don't see any way it would not. Now I have no chance at all to even compete on the same level as you.

Later man.

Here is the update on the wider axles. I broke the rear left dogbone twice because i can't weld and I am in the prosess of fixing it. As for the purpose of the widening, to improve the servos abilit to turn the tires by removing scrub and also to get the tires over the knuckles for better clearance. Well how did it work? As far as I can tell the steering is greatly improved when a tire is up against a rock. As for the clearance it will be obvious when i post some new picks tonight.

So how did you attach the steel tubes to the plastic? JB weld?

Why not plastic tubes? Would plastic to plastic glue better?

As for glueing they are not glued yet because i wanted to check the strengh of the axle shafts that i welded. So basically they are wedged on tight you will notice the custom supports with the modded servo mount. it is set back under the support to protect the servo saver and have a better leverage angle. as for the tires because I know people will ask the are my old bfts with proline step pins glued on. I used steel tubing because i could weld new link mounts to them because the links needed to be spaced in to their original positions. All in all they were PITA :!: I wish i had a machine shop and they would have come out better.
