Xl with trenchers

Pulled the trenchers off my summit and installed on the xl. I am very surprised how well they work. Traction is better and the sidewalls are much stiffer. Because of the added width, the xl does not roll so much. Trenchers are staying on the rig.

I did the trenchers also but used the 5b wheels. they work very well.. I have only ran them one time so far.. but happy with them..

Do you have any comparison pics of the stock wheels next to the trenches. Just wanting to know the size difference. How are the trenches as far as ballooning goes?

How are those rims compared to the stock rims in terms of durability? On the pro line web site they claim the rims are made of nylon. I have broken several stock rims and am looking for a replacement.

This was a direct swap right? No changing anything? Wish Axial made the 8 hole Beadlocks that size. Think the 40 series would be too big and I don't wanna cut them like someone else on here did.

ok.. on mine ( the orange one ) I went with the hpi 24mm hub. my wheels are Baja 5b fronts on all 4 corners.. I went with the 5b set up because no one has a sand tire set up for the xl. the 5b sand tires work bitchin. so I went with the trenchers for a 5b.. a little taller no ballooning, very happy with the set up...

It was a direct swap however I installed 17mm hex from HPI to stop using the crap wheel nut. It is about 1/2 inch shorter than the stock wheels and they've taking a pretty good beating and appear very durable. These wheels/tires have been used on 6s tmaxx, 4s summit, and now the XL. The think I love is the added stability with the extra with.

Is that just the stock body painted? And do you have any pics of the back panel.
I made and painted all the panels. .30 lexan mixed up custom paint shot it with a air brush. its florescent orange with lots of orange flake, backed with white. you cant see the flake in the pics, and the orange is a lot darker/different in the pics..

I was shocked when someone posted the weight of the stock wheels. Im not surprised people are breaking them left and right. Some have suggested cutting and gluing certain wheels. Dont bother...they wont stay together...dont care what glue/technique you use. If you narrow a wheel... you have to fasten the two piedces together with hardware. The 5b wheel is probably the best option and the 5b front trencher are probably the best option at the moment.

BillC.

Questions.
how much is the difference in weight per tire/wheel of the 5b setup vs the stock wheel/tire?

Does the 5b setup change the tire scrub? (Does the 5b wheel backspacing/offset work well?)

Can you get us a picture of the clearance between the tire and chassis at full lock?

Assuming you used the wheels you are currently using - what is the maximum tire diameter you think would fit? ( i understand those trenchers are 7.55 correct?)

Mustang... the track width says the same as the stock tires and wheel.. the stock wheels and tires are 13.2oz. the 5b's are 18.5oz. and I would not go too much taller. mine rub just a bit on the body only at full turn when compressed.

Just a side note about using 5b wheels. I noted on my savage flux after swapping from normal monster 3.8 tires to 5b trenches or Losi 5ive tires. The vehicle broke more suspension parts during jumps or cartwheels on the 5th scale wheels/tires. The normal 3.8 wheels have some give or are spongy.
