I need to upgrade my servo ASAP. I bought a $25 servo that was advertised at .13 sec and 226oz/in @6v but there is no way that servo performs that way. It is slow as @#ck. Anyway, I've read several threads and have seen that most are running the following:
Hitec 7950
Hitec 7954
HH Trailmaster
Savox (model number something...but people talk about brownout??? more unfamiliar terms...sigh)

I'm using a generic radio (radiolink r3cs w receiver) and i think ill go with the 7950. I keep hearing people talk about BECs and capacitors but have no idea what those are for. Why cant i just buy a servo and plug it in? Seems frustrating to spend over $100 on a servo and have to buy more stuff to get it to work. Is there any way around that?

My 150A esc specs says that it has a BEC of 6v or 8.4v (whatever that means it sounds like its enough. also not sure why its one or the other. is there a switch to go from 6v to 8.4v????)

Help!

Servos such as 7954 draw a lot of amps, more then a built in Bec can deliver possible causing the receiver to power off (browning out) Depending on the servo you run and your ESC you may be able to get away with just a capacitor but to get full potential and avoid any problems its best to use an external BEC.

You may want to look at the HH SHV500 with its built in power supply you just plug it into the receiver and battery.

I'm running my standby Savox, Yeti has castle bec, works great, others are waiting on glitchbusters......not sure what MMP output amperage is, I will find out soon.

On another truck with major heat issues, I also was having glitching, and found the receiver was blinking off/on, swapped a old traxxas servo in, heat dropped 40 degrees and truck ran like a wheelie monster with clutch set to slip!! 2 packs back to back MMP was 104 degrees with fan on, motor stayed at 140 ambient temp 88 asphalt temp 103...... I will get a castle bec for that one as well, I just like my torque monster savox servos

Yeah check out the HH SHV500 it can run directly from a 3s lipo. There's a video on how to use it in John Holmes' SCX10 2 review check it out.

that SHV500 does look sweet and its competitively priced but i run my yeti on 4s exclusively. i read some posts that said the servo cant handle 4s. bummer...

i just installed the hitec 7954 and its considerable faster than my previous servo. seems to work fine without the CC BEC but it makes a ton of noise...like the motor is constantly running. i adjusted the EPAs but it is still noisy. at full lock it sounds like the motor is running and back to dead center it makes noise until i lift the car off the ground and there is no resistance on the tires. is this normal? i dont want to fry my new servo.

Is it getting hot? If not its just being itself

Here is my setup - Holmes Hobbies BLS HV500 servo and all Vanquish aluminium steering upgrades. I run it via Mamba Monster X internal BEC on 8V (that is max). It can take more (8.4V) with external BEC.

With that certain radio you have, that receiver always has 10 volts running through it. A servo that you might use will only be using 6 ish volts, so You don't need a BEC. So no worries buddy. If you want to save some money but want good quality, get a savox servo.

Could it be that you mean Amps instead of Volts?
Cause wouldn't run a 6v Servo on 10v.
If you need an extra bec or not for your Servo is depending on the max Amps the build in bec of your esc can deliver and which voltage.

Yeah I meant That. All I know is you shouldn't need to run a BEC with it.

I have and love my Savox servos and everyone has an external bec , except the one with the MM2, that needed a glitch buster for my Savox .
They eat amps !

Savöx has round about 5A Max. Sadly you can't get this Info for all servos ....
That's something the rc Business let's missing technical informations....

My mmx internal bec is rated 8A current
So I don't need an external bec. Running 1210sg steering and 0231 as shift Servo. I like them too

The 7954 in my wraith is loud as a mofo. Gets warm but not hot. I run the external bec, in part, to know that im gettin the most out of the servo without stressing the rx or esc. Two hot ass Socal summers and still buzzing away...

The yeti has also a cc bec hooked into a tower pro mg968. Not as powerful as the 7954 but since my yeti is no crawler, it fits the bill.
