| SHObox
Definition: SHObox (Proper Noun): Taurus SHO motor mounted in a small, box shaped vehicle. In this case, I am part of a team building a SHO-powered Subaru Justy (circa 1987). I've never done anything like this before, so it will be quite a learning experience. And since it is all happening in my garage, I should be able to pick up quite a knowledge base . The team was formed in order to build a car for the $2013 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge held in Gainesville, FL. The total cost for the car may not be any more than $2013.00. With about 16 guys on the team, it is a fairly inexpensive endeavor. There are 3 parts of the competition: Auto Cross, Drag Race, and Concourse. You can see more on the competition here: Grassroots Motorsports $2013 Challenge Presented by Kumho Tire, Powered by eBay Motors, Sponsored by CRC Industries: Grassroots Motorsports Magazine For our Challenge car, we will be removing the Engine and transaxle from the Taurus and putting it into the REAR of the Justy. After much hacking of the Justy, the complete assembly of the engine/transaxle should drop (well rise in this case) into the rear of the Justy. First...disassembly of the Taurus. Probably the most important part of the disassembly is that the wiring is being removed without cutting anything. Hopefully this will save us time later when putting it back together. As part of the team strips the Taurus, other guys are stripping down the Justy. The engine will be removed and a gas tank added in its place. Pics!.... |

Good call snagging a 4WD Justy. You'll have RWD-compatible uprights at least. Or, you could just weld the whole Taurus front clip in there and add box flares. That way you know the halfshafts will be strong enough.

Not sure, we've had some names float around like SHOebox and Justyfied. Nothing firm yet. Quote:
The SHOgun was the inspiration for the car. We had originally been looking to find a fiesta or festiva, but found the Justy from a guy at work. All he wanted was for us to get it out of his yard, so it was a done deal. | ||

Back when I had a subscription to GRM I always loved the coverage from the "challenge". My favorite winner was the C4 Corvette with the "active" ground effects, classic. And I believe there's a less glamorous name for the challenge... |
