| Ol' F-150 4 door drop bed
Some of you have seen this build over on Scale4x4, but I'll share it with the rest. Got these two Bfoots off Jaymillz Little start on the bed..........after $20 of styrene today I first put down some Model Masters white primer and it came out like goo (wtf is up with hobby model paint? Ive never had luck with any). After waiting 3 days for it to friggin dry it took about 2 hours of sanding to get it back to square one. I went back to the good ol trusty Duplicolor Primer. There are a few small spots that im plan on smoothing out when this stuff dries. It would be nice to lay out some paint on this thing tonight, we'll see. laid out a "bed liner" Even whipped up a little bed box for it too. I ended up just going with a Highlift frame, leaf springs in the back, coils in the front. I soon found out that CR-01 coils and buckets were just too big a bulky for this thing. I mocked up a simple front 4 link with TLT springs. Theyre fairly soft, and I wasnt sure how much they would compress so I made the temp. spring mount. It's obvious the front sits too high and actual coil buckets are in the process. The start of the actual coil spring mounts A little mock up, I have 2lbs of lead weight on the front of the frame and it's still too high. |

The front end still sits a little high, but again, im just not sure how the coils are going to settle with all the added weight. To compensate, I added the spacer on the bottom end of the coils which I can reduce to level the chassis out when the rig is all buttoned up. I stole the 4 link set up idea from my RPP F-350 crew cab. When the front of the rig gets leverled out, links get sleved, and paint it should look more like this. Rolling chassis is about done, as much as I can really do anyways. Just waiting on my shocks, tranny and new 1.55 wheels and tires from rc4wd to get here. Rear body mount The steering was fairly easy, I wanted it frame mounted, and it's just close enough to the frame to tuck right in behind the grill of the body (about 3/8" away) Had to do a trac bar to take the slack out of the side to side play. The frame mount is a VERY tight fit, I cant believe how luck I got with this thing. Im not really a fan of the angle of the bar, it seems to work fine though with minimal "push/ pull" to it when the suspension compresses. If it bothers me when driving, ill change it around. Since these 1.55 Rock stompers are almost 4.25" tall, I mocked the rig up some 1.9 Rock Crushers and realized instead of lowering the front end to level the frame out, I really needed to raise the back end. I dont want any frame showing from under the body, and I think this looks pretty good. It might be a little on the high side, but that can be easily adjusted with the lower coil spacer up front and the rear axle block. |

Had some greeat weather last week so I got her painted up. Still have to paint the door handles and other tid bits, but it's getting there. Still waiting on the turned down TLTs and Tranny to get here. Finished up the coil buckets so I could finally get some flex shots Still need to: Paint the door handles, tail lights, and grill Paint the chassis and brakets Lower the suspension down a little Still need to trim the sides to match the wheel wells. |

Beast! Looks great so far and on the paint issue; I tried Model Masters primer once and had the same problem with it staying tacky for over an hour. I've since been using Tamiya primer and paints and love them...and the dry time is very quick. |

| Ive been using duplicolor with OK results, but I really think im going to make the jump to Tamiya. Most people really like them, and they have a LOT more color options.

I really like the front bumper. What size styrene did you use and hwo did you reinforce/mount it? Is it designed to hold a 3R winch?

| I don't know the exact size, but it's pretty thick. It wont hold a winch, but it's not really made too. It's mounted to the top of the servo, so for the most part, it's fairly solid.
