Default Newbie Quesitons! Where to start?

Well I was at a local garage/antique sale and happened across this little guy and thought it would make a cool rc. I have a nylint crawler but we all know those only last so long. So any ways Id like to take this and turn it into a little crawler without chopping and streching the body. So where do I start? What parts to go with? Its about 10 inches long and a current wb of about 6.5 inches.

Yeah I figure Ill have to stretch it a litte maybe an inch or so. My biggest thing is I dont want tires that are way out or proportion. Not looking for super scale but I do realize Ill probly have to compromise on something.

Should I part every thing together or just go out and buy a RTR kit of some sort? The rear wheel wells are small and I think a tire much over 3" will be too big for the look I want.

I would think Losi MRC axles and transmission would be a better bet then the 1:10 stuff. That and 1.55 wheels/tires. The MRC stuff is pretty durable for its size and there are alot of upgrades for them. For the frame, I think most things available would be too long. So a scratch built from square tubing cut in half would be the best bet. It would be alot of work, but that is a pretty nice body and worthy of it!
