Default 1994 Jeep YJ

It's about time I posted this somewhere.

I went through numerous project ides for this MRC drive train I had laying around. I finally went with a Tamiya Wrangler body since I always wanted one. Besides, a Socal member's Jeep was very inspiring. Anyway, I went for the typical daily driver/weekend trail rig look. I think it turned out really great and is now one of my favorites to drive. It really soaks in landings with the shocks I put on it(the first time I've ever done such a thing). The clean, crisp lines in the body allow for very nice pictures as well.

The first thing I do with any build is get the axles mounted to a chassis, and go from there.

Of course the axles never line up perfectly the first time, so I re-drill the leafs.

Stacked hexes and an oilite bushing on each stub axle required barrel nuts.

Getting there.

Mounting the shocks.

Ingenious battery tray.

Minus the RC4WD R2 2-speed tranny.

Out on the trails.

Things still to do:

Remove fog light mounts from grill
make undercarriage/fender wells
Add lights
In time, metal lockers for axles

Holy crap that looks incredible, looks like it just has a couple inches of lift and 33's or 35's, really nice job on this.

It looks very scale. I'm hoping mine will turn out as scale as yours (mine is 1.9 tho).

Thanks guys! I put it to the test today on Sugarloaf Mt. in Maryland the other day. It did quite well, it just has a few quirks that will hopefully be resolved by tomorrow.

I secured the rear axle a little better yesterday because the mounting screws kept backing out. I was only able to put a single U-bolt on each side because the shock mounts were interfering. I also included a picture of the stacked hex design I used to widen the track width. In between the wheel and hex is also a spacer. I had to use barrel nuts to mount the wheels.

This rig looks amazing .

Do the front and rear lights come with the body?

I only ask, because I am wanting to build on this summer.

Thanks! You have to buy the body parts separately because different parts come on different sprues. I bought all the parts in the pic for about $70 from RPPhobby.

"Center caps" are the barrel nuts.

Reworked the rear u-bolt brackets and removed the fog light mounts from the grill.

The front of the Jeep looks 110% better without those fog light mounts!

How'd ya remove em and keep the grill lookin clean? I've never seen a YJ body in person before, so the previous question could leave me lookin pretty dumb...

Thanks! I really wanted them out of there, it needed it. That's not a dumb question at all. Since the mounts are molded into the grill, it's quite a meticulous job removing them without butchering the vertical slats. You also have to make sure you keep the lines straight so the bottom of the salts don't come out crooked. I did put a few nicks in the plastic, but you can't see them unless you're looking close.
