Idk if your still trying to get those pesky bolts out, but you could try Kroil. We use it in the Aircraft industry for that kind of stuff with good results. Maybe worth a shot.

Thanks, Scott! Dean (chino63) has offered to help me out so I'm likely going to send him the one stubborn wheel to see if he can work his magic. The screw heads are now too stripped out to try to remove conventionally. :(

Good point, Cory! Yeah, these are plastic wheels (obviously), but have no weight in them whatsoever. It's a perfect storm for a top heavy rig for sure!

And if anyone is bored, sgtsteve put together a brief compilation slo-mo video of the LJ from yesterday.

I know, right? Unfortunately at the time I sold, the crawler scene here in Austin was all but dead and I also needed the cash for other stuff. Nonetheless, the seller's remorse is strong with this one. :ror:

Good news! I located the current owner via a friend's help and I secured a deal. The LJ is coming back home! I'm super excited to have it back. Looks like it's been run pretty hard, though, so I'll have some work ahead of me to get it how I want. Nonetheless, I can't wait to get it back!

Looks like the main components are still there, as well as all my fab work, but it's looking a bit rough at the moment. The body will definitely need some TLC.

That sucks - I always hate shipping RCs.

Glad you found it, sorry that shipping is worse on a rig than using it. It looks like the previous owner didnt let get dusty on the shelf...

Wow, I remember that one! I found it to be the most appealing green Jeep around. Nice to see it's back where it should be. Looking forward to seeing it back together.

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. :) I'm super bummed about the damage, but it will be risen from the ashes. Maybe I should name it Phoenix?? :lmao:

I missed this build the first time around. Too bad about all the damage.

I’m looking forward to watching the rebirth![emoji3]

That sucks about the body being destroyed in shipping. Was it one of the "muddy" New Brite TJ bodies? I have one just sitting around.

Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep

Well, I heard back from the USPS and they declined my insurance claim. I had to bring the box and truck to a local post office for review and the first comment from the lady was how little damage the box had. I tried to explain that just because the box didn't have a bunch of tears/holes that it doesn't mean the contents weren't damaged in shipment. Someone could've thrown the box 20' in the air! That might not damage the box, but would sure hurt the contents. Not saying that happened, but I was trying to explain that the contents could be damaged even if the box isn't junked. I've appealed and am now waiting on their decision. Really sucks.

Sucks that you have to file a claim, lose, then appeal the decision... jeez. What a run-around.

Seems like the insurance is only for items that get lost or are visibly destroyed on the outside.

Tommy R 03-09-2020 07:20 AM

Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep

Thanks, y'all. And yeah, it seems insurance is only for stuff that's either lost or damaged in a box that's been visibly destroyed. Lessson learned for sure.

What a BS move to pull, but I wouldn't expect anything more from USPS. So infuriating.

Now we all learned something. Stomp on the box before taking photos for insurance claims.

Well, I appealed and was denied again. I appealed again and said that I need to speak to someone. That was a few weeks ago, but I basically gave up. Yesterday I decided to follow up on it. Much to my surprise, I saw the words “APPROVED” and “PAID”! WTF?!? I checked the mail today and guess who had a check! :)

So it sucks the body got destroyed, but at least now I’m financially compensated. A wee bit of good news in the mess going on these days.
