| BIG RED 40 series Ute
Well this is a bit of a repost, my last thread was a bit cluttered because I kept changing my mind on what I wanted to do so now that I have a good idea I thought I'd re do my build thread from the beginning. So from the start...... I Have owned a Nitro Short Course Truck and a 1/8 MOA Crawler before, but this is my first 1/10 scale crawler. I started off with a RC4WD Trail Stomper Ready to Run Kit. I was Quite pleased with the kit as a whole and have never been as exited as I was when the package arrived. |

I Painted up one of the Provided Bodies Black And the second one provided I painted Blue After a Bit of tinkering with the setup I Feel Its running well, I did the usual Mods People do to the Trail Stomper, like removing the extra leaf springs, Removing the Internal Springs in the Shocks and a couple of O-rings. After a couple of Runs the Standard DriveShafts Packed it in so I Upgraded with Junfac Carbon Steel Shafts. I Also Flipped the Wheel Hubs onto the Opposite side of the wheel, giving me both a deeper dish rim, and a bit more of an offset which has made a lot of difference. And By Far the Best Modification I have done so far is to raise the gearbox up to the lower mounting points, making it sit flush with the Chassis, which was a cause for a lot of Hang ups Previously. |

I've gone with a 40 series Landcruiser CC-01 body shell. I Chopped it into a Ute body The Standard Shell Step 1, I Marked out the Cuts on the Body using masking tape. Here are the Three separated Pieces And then Using Super Glue I Attached the back section to the front cab. Then I glued a couple of Lexan Off cuts inside the body along the seam to strengthen it a little. The Body Glued and Mocked up on the Chassis |

The body all masked up[IMG][/IMG] And in the mail today I got my new RC 4WD 35T motor. Wasn't quite as much of as an increase as I was expecting so ill have to play around with the gearing of the pinion and see what I can get out of it [IMG][/IMG] |

Replied on your other thread before I found this one. Any other weak points other than the drive shafts? Been looking at these for a while and think its about time to pick one up.

hey buddy, I replied to you on the other thread too but basicly no, the driveshafts are the only week point I have found so far. There are a few other factors, The Main one being that it really doesn't have that much flex. after a bit of playing around with the springs and shocks, and after they wear in a bit it softens up but don't expect anything like the sxc will give you. At one point the screws holding the Steering servo loosened off and made the servo move when you tried to steer instead of steering, but was easily fixed with a bit of lock tight and re-tighting them up. Personally it isn't fast enough stock for my liking, so ive recently changed to a 35T motor over the stock 45T one, and im going to play around with bigger pinion gears. Other than that though its a great rig, very scale, and for the price I wouldn't pass it up. I Live in Australia and it cost me under $400 to buy and have it shipped from the U.S to here, where as it was going to cost me over $700 for a sxc10, Tamiya Hi-lift or bruiser. |

Well, after all this I decided Im not overly happy with the tray. So ive pulled it off and am going to try something different. It just didn't seem to look that good, and seemed a bit to small. And I just really wasn't too happy with it. So Scrapped that idea and now Im thinking just a Plain Straight forward tray. Undecided weather I will make it a Competition style tray, or a full regular tray with sides or maybe even a Hard Canopy style tray. But ill also add in other things like under tray tool boxes etc. |
