i figured it was time to put some posts on here about this thing. i apologize in advance for the pics, i'm working on better ones. the frame and cage are a mix of 1/2" square and 1/2" x 1 1/2" rectangular tube with some 1/4" round steel for the "tube". it started out as being a simple willys but out grew the stock ax-10 drivetrain that i used so i extended the axles by 1" on each side. axleshaft extension i've now torn it back apart to move the rear suspension farther back and replace some weak links in the drivetrain and talking with JRH about more power. (rooster crawler w/55t not cutting it.) any questions, comments, or suggestions? |

| Whoah THAT'S A BIG BITCH especially for Axial axles. Maybe you could score some TXT axles and they wouldnt have to be extended either. Looks good.

Thanks gula, I've been thinking about the txt's but I want to see how much abuse this ax10 hardware can handle. |

thanks vwboosted. i'll have some updates shortly as i was moving this weekend and the rig is residing at work for now. A question to all: i am looking into a dig like the hot racing unit for the ax10, does it use the stock output out of the transmission by itself or is there a stubshaft that bolts on? the reason is that it seems easy enough to replicate it in such a way as to have a dual dig setup on the stock tranny? those who have personal exerience with it: do the parts hold up? any imput is appreciated

looks great I just installed a Mamba Max with a 45t motor on a 3cell lipo and it's stupid quick... not real fast ... cuz of the gearing but it lights up the tires. |

many thanks zoso, your build was an inspiration for this rig. i've also gotta say thanks to aipohaku, you were the influence to go "BIG". i just bought a holmes hobbies revolver and will be mating it to a mamba max pro.

| something of an update..
It's been a while since i posted anything about big red. since i got it together i took it for a test ride with some sad results had the 65 turn integy in it (i know, but it had to be tried.) and it wouldn't climb a pillow to the hearth of a fireplace. tearing it back down i found that it destroyed all 4 gears in the two trannys, and sheared the rear output off the rear trans. so i upgraded to robinson racing lockers and idlers in both trannys. i also moved the rear axle back about an inch or so. then i got it back together to test it on the south side of morro rock, morro bay Ca. it was going good for a while untill i found the line that was too much for the axle c"s i can't recommend the holmes hobbies revolver enough!!! even running it on a 6 cell ni-mh there was plenty of torque to move this 24.5 lb monster. i'm hoping next to upgrade to 3s to get more wheel speed and figure out how to get some video!!! hopefully updated soon. |
