Default Codyboys Custom EBAY JK Jeep!!!!!!

OK, I've been wanting to build one of these ever since they first came out!! I couldn't justify that much money for a body. So I waited and waited until the price came down. I've had it about 6 months now,I think I paid about $75. with shipping, alot better than $140.
Anyway I've been acquiring parts for a while now and have enough to start the build, so here we go!!!!
I'm not going to post a complete parts list because I don't know what they all will be. I guess I'm more of a get in and get my hands dirty DOER than sitting down and planning everything out builder!!!!

What I do know is I'm going with the GCM J2 Skeleton Chassis kit, GCM TerraMod Axles at 191mm wide, and a Bomb proof Dead bolt tranny. The Jeep will have a custom SS cage, comp doors and be painted a Lime green.

Cantilever shocks custum built with Associated TC3 shocks.
Edit on these, I didn't like the set up on the cantilevers so I replaced them with some Kyosho golds.

I will be starting the cage next, I have no idea what I'm going for!!!!!

Started stripping the jeep down to do the cage and and comp cut on the front and rear.

I have been putting this off (cutting up a perfectly good body), but here we go!

My custom made tubing bender. I like the larger bending surface, it makes it eaiser to duplicate bends for mirror image. I can do a bend and mark the white area with a sharpy and then repeat the exact same bend.

I'm using 3/16th Stainless steel tube and rod.

OK, starting to get a vision of what I want the cage to look like.

I put some tabs on to mount the cage to the body.

I like the look of the rear bar being at a angle instead vertical, but needed the cage designed to protect rear passengers.

Rig is looking good buddy! Love the fact that you are building a cage with the capability to protect passengers in the rear seats. Not too often you see any true 4-seat rigs built. BTW, the solder joints look good as well. What torch and solder are you using? I picked up a small oxy/acetylene setup a while ago, but have yet to get into any cage work. I have some brazing rods here, but they are kind of stubborn and a PITA to use. May have to pick up some Safety-Silv and give it a whirl.

Either way, my rig is slowly coming together and it looks like you're making progress. You need to make a trip over the hill when you finish this up so we can get some video of all the rigs in our little OHV park.

Thanks Brian, The torch and guage are UniWeld, I have used this one and one just like it for 35 years of soldering. It is not a Smith, but I only need to deal with one tank. I use Safety Silv 56 for solder. I never did do very well with brazing rod and flux.
I think I'm going to build the doors and rock sliders next.
When I finish this build, I will be able to start the IBEX GOAT, I think probably a 1.9.
In my wheeling and dealing last week I ended up with two wraith skids, both new. Are you interested in one of them?
We will get together sometime this summer for some play time!

As much as I appreciate the offer, I am going to have to say no at this point. Thank you though. I have enough projects going on, and it will still be a while till I can get into my buggy build. As a matter of fact, my rig on narrowed AR60s may be going down the road. I was offered a trade for a mildly built and VERY clean Hammers that I am having a really hard time saying no to. As much as I love the rig I'm building, it's still got a long ways to go to get to completion. This is why I try to build in the Winter. All I wanna do is play in the sun in the Summer, and I end up parting with projects for runners just to be able to take advantage of the nice weather with my kids. SMH!

Sounds good, I'm sure I will find a good use for it.

So I cleaned up the cage a little and sprayed it with a flat aluminum header paint (1200 degree) and baked in my BQ at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. This is the second coat.

I got a good start on my tube doors today. What a pita trying to get everything lined up and square. Think I'm going to try and use rare earth magnets to keep the doors shut.

Jimmy had try them out!!!

Looks great! Sub'd.
Can you post some better pics and details on your bender? I can't keep from squashing tubing.

The key to keeping your tubing from kinking is the washer and 1/8" spacer.

They help keep pressure on the tubing as you make your bend.

The handle size is a little overkill, but it is nice to have that leverage when bending 1/4" stainless steel rod. Besides I like to repurpose and I found it at my favorite recycle yard. I put the whole bender together for under $5.00.

This is the back side showing how I clamp it in the vise. Hope these help you, anymore questions feel free to ask!

I'm sure you have already figured out that it wouldn't take much change to yours to be bending tube. I'd like to see what you come up with.

I did some work on my rock slider this evening. I think I'm going to try something a little different, we'll see how it works out. No progress tomorrow, even us retired folks have to take a break. Doc. appointment.
