Default My RC4WD LWB TF2 dual cab Hilux..

Many thanks to team RC4WD for the chance to have a play with the new LWB TF2!
IT's like a TF2, but longer. A TF2+2 if you will. I've had a few plans since we learnt these were coming, most revolved around making another Aussie style ute but to be honest nothing really clicked.

Being an Aussie I can say that 90% of our early Hiluxs are flat trays and that just didn't appeal, to me they look kinda whacky.. So I'm gonna buck the trend! A full tray, LHD and a different look! Australia wasn't the only country that had dual cabs...

Sorry my fellow Aussie bogans but that just looks... well.... crap.

My box arrived a bit late, the paperwork got lost so it spent nearly a week sitting in the lost mail department. It's a nice box, it has many nice graphics.

Time to get out of the wild!

RC4WD really have stepped up in the packaging department. Lots of info and of course a nice list of potential upgrades...

There's a secret code inside the lid. You need to have the secret encoder to decipher it.

There are a few SERIOUS quality control issues.. My manual was upside down!!!
Maybe it's a southern hemisphere thing?

Time to screw some stuff to other stuff...
Laying frame and other cool things they say.

There are a few other differences other than the obvious with this body. The front grill area is different. Here's the old TF2 grill insert in the new body. Notice the gap under the side light.

The grill that comes with the kit.

I assembled the chassis as per the book, no real suprises if you've built any RC4WD kit before. If can drive an allen key and read you can build this. They really have this stuff well sorted. Clean, simple and easy to follow...

Part of all that chopping was shortening the tray and wheelbase by 10mm. Because making it look real.

Real.

Shortened wheelbase. Not 100% but a lot closer..

The tray is getting there..

Filling in that weird slit thing...

It's a little thing but it makes a big difference (to me at least!). The stock lenses are dead flat and that's always bugged me so I filed them into shape! Then sanded, and sanded and polished them back up.

Trucks with lots of seats need lots of driversssss

Starting to look turkish!

It has a face!

Some logo. A few coats of spray putty to blend in the stick on letterrrrsss. The plan is to make them look more like they were pressed into the body than stuck on bits of metal. I even spelt it proper fer once!

An undercoating of random crust for the tray..

I've started painting up the pilots..

I dug out some NASTY resin Tamiya ripoff bodies from the cupboard. They are pretty average but they should scrub up ok.

The new dash design is a big step up from the previous version!

Masking time. Such a tedious job but one that needs careful attention..
