F-350 Family cab A.K.A Southern Charm

Well i am new to the forum and what better way to say hello than with a build? Ive been on Scale4x4R/C for awhile now and just decided to expand my builds to this forum. Warning pic heavy! Enjoy!
So here is what i got so far.. I am going to build an F-350 Family cab. Now what the heck is a Family cab you ask? Well it's a name i gave this truck and you'll see why in just a minute. This Family cab was supposed to be fitted with a custom dropped bed but instead i will be making a Hillsboro style 5th wheel truck bed out of styrene. I must warn you my crafting skills are very very low and I've never worked with styrene before!

I want to give this rig that "mall crawler" look to it, after all it will be hauling my other rigs.

So i found a cool website and this guy named Mac down here in Florida makes custom trailers, trucks, fiberglass f-350 cabs, dually fenders, and much more. Here's the link SSD Unlimited Scale rc trailers and custom rc bodies, Florida
I decided to go ahead and get the cab made out of fiberglass. It's strong and way different than cutting up cabs! During the cab build Mac took pics of the progress until it was painted and ready to go. He did not pay me to tell you all this, it's just pure customer satisfaction!

Well i couldn't resist myself, i just had to get a custom trailer from Mac! Here it is with my other 2 builds!

This thing is cool, he doesn't build any 2 alike. Mine is his first detachable gooseneck he's ever done. Meaning i can make this into a tow behind.




Chassis is all done and body trimmed in the rear to let it sit on the frame rails.

And dual shocks! Just gotta make the rear ones not lean in so much.

I believe $250 i don't remember exactly but since it's custom it could be more and could be less. Also Mac just made some new molds for the cabs and they look killer, Even made ribs for the roof like the 1:1s. This covers all charges but honestly it was well worth it. I love it! and for the regular crewcabs it's in the $100's I think $150.

Decided to ditch the leafs in the front since i couldn't figure out the steering, so made the servo axle mounted and COIL OVER SUSPENSION!! My first attempt, let me know what you think.



Well i had a mid build crisis and ditched the leafs and coil overs and iam saving the flatbed for a later build. I'll update this weekend with a new homemade chassis.

For the very few people interested in my build here's an update:rolling: It's been awhile, been really busy working late but got time to myself finally and started working on the truck.
First on the list i ditched my previous suspension set-ups and decided to roll with a four link set-up in the front and leafs in the rear for the hauling. Used the stock f-350 brush guard mounts as brackets Only thing to do now is get shorter front shocks. I am also not worried about flex since it will be a show queen.

Here's a close up.

Also started on the bed side tool boxes. No floor yet and i also will try to make locking handles to lock the doors.

I was just lucky enough. Fits in nice and snug.

Here's my 2.2 build. Big difference compared to 1.55.

Dang! You guys and your Fords! We have got to get some more Chevy builds going! LOL! I actually like it though! It is a unique idea. I'm an over the road truck driver and I get down there to Florida once in a while. I know how they are down there with their jacked up trucks! I can imagine seeing a truck like that in real life driving down the street! Good job so far! I'll keep watching! Even if it is a Ford!

Thanks wheeler means a lot! Just moved to Florida from New Hampshire and boy was that a culture shock haha and the trucks that they have here are insane, I've seen quite a few 6 door ones and that's what got me to building this, well that and the fact i have seen a scaler like this lol

Wow! No doubt on the culture shock!

I've seen a lot of the real beds like that that have a polished diamond plated floor. Just a thought.

Yea i know how you feel. I've been working on that crewcab for 3-4 years now. Always changing my mind on what to do with it. Also that's my first ever rc/scale build. You'll finish it soon!

Dang you read me like a book! except i want to do black diamond plating also i was looking at water transfer printing, it wouldn't be textured but it would still look killer and it's pretty durable.

In the description it says that it is paintable. It would defiantly look more real.

Plastruct or Parma also makes a plastic version of this. I've painted it black with good success. I would expect similar from the metal as long as you scuff it a bit.

I forgot about that! I've seen it but never used it. Good suggestion! Sense he's going to paint it, it would be cheaper.
