Default Loco-FJ

So I've already named this one "loco" because I must be crazy to start another scale build when I already have two scalers, two comp rigs, a slash and a RS4 rally. I also haven't quite finished the last scale build so again either I'm crazy or I'm looking to have my wife take away my ATM card.

Anyway this project started due to a late night ebay buy for $55:

When I got the truck I imidiatly pulled the body and stripped it of all its cheezy stickers:

Next I purchased a K2-5 from Reign and shorthened it from 16" to 15". This is a really nice chassis, quality and deisgn are both top knotch:

I also picked up another set of TLT axles and a bunch of goodies to put this rig together:

Here is a quick mock-up:

I'm really shooting for a quick build of a small trail rig that performs well and is durable. Hope to have it running soon...

Liking the build. Those FJ's are growing on me.

Been there bro. I have a Land Rover on the way from ebay that I'm not sure what I'm going to do with yet.

Looks good. I like that chassis.

What's the wheelbase on that FJ?

Thanks for the coments guys!

So I've been working on this beast all week and have some progress to share.

First I built up my new TLT axles using new MIP Ver.2 CVD's, new housings, new diffs and MSD lock-outs. I also tried to use as may parts from my mini-junk yard as possible including some fat-rock anodized aluminum C's and RC4WD knuckles. I ran into an issue with the MSD lockouts so had to use the stock inner axles, after installing them I still noticed play in the stub shaft so I cut a 1/8" pice of fuel tubing in the cup to remedy:

All assembled and ready to go:

I decided to ditch the Traxxas links in favor of some Axials becasue they are easier to shorten. I cut them to 75mm and threw them in my bead blaster for a nice satin finish. I also picked up a set of mini LST shocks from ebay and changed out to axial ball ends.

I then drilled new upper shock mounts and assembled chassis

After a night of destruction (1AM):

This is a cool rig, it wheels great and is much more capable than my hybrid.

I am impressed with the tire set up I choose, I narrowed some Losi claw foams and added some weight to the wheels and they now they stick really well.

I do have a bit of body roll but I think I can fix that by shortening the upper shock mounts from 15 to 10mm.

I did a bit of fender trimming and have been seriously considering my front bumper options, I also have some ultr-bright LEDs that need a home...

I also got some scale goodies that are beggin to get installed

Thanks everybody.

Ride height is good for the tall tires but Im tripping on the wheelbase, seems short. When I do a new bumper I may push the chassis forward a tad and lengthen the links.

Anyway, I installed a couple scale goodies and took it out for a quick run the in a local dry creek bed, wheeled great.

Im thinking some rock rings next and gotta get the LEDs installed.

So I couldnt stand the stock bumper any longer, with a little aluminum plate and an old LST bumper from the rc bone yard, my problem was solved. Maybe later I'll get creative and mill up a nice delrin one but for now this will do

It clears the tire nicely at full stuff:

Looks great man! The bumper turned out nice too. Did you end up moving the front axle forward?
