Default Kaetwo's Toyota flatbed build....

I've wanted to build a total red necked out Toyota for a while now, so now that I've finished my Berg comp rig, it's time for some fun :-)

I've always dug the Toy's with no bed or semi-truggied out. Simple but raw looking.

I started with the usual hybred parts. TLT axles, bruiser chassis, leafs and body. I'm not sure what to do with the tranny (any ideas are welcome there). I originally wanted to use Bruiser axles but there too dainty for the abuse this rig will go through. I then decided to leaf the rig front and back. However putting leafs on a TLT axle is a bitty. Then I noticed that 1BadJeepBruiser used RC4WD lockouts on his clone allowing a mount for a leaf.....very cool! For rims and tires, I'll use OG Tamiya Pajero/etc rims (the satin ones) and some RC4WD Rock Crushers. There the perfect height and look for this rig.

I've cut the back off the bruiser frame so that I can add a straight bar across the back for a bumper. This is house the lights and such. It also ends the chassis nicely with the shackle hangers exposed. Next I need to make the rear of the cab. I was able to blow-up from the Tamiya build manual the rear firewall/whateveritscalled.

I have a ton of work yet to do but it's been fun so far.

Any pics of 1:1 rigs that fit the bill are welcome and please post up any ideas you have. I'm not that great of a builder but I'll try

On a side note, if any of you want the CAD drawling for the leaf mounts that I made your welcome to them. There simple and easy to make.

Thanks for looking

Always a pleasure to watch you build a scale rig and a red neck ride works for me.

great job on those mounts, they look clean! i like your idea for the bed. here is what i did to mine when i smashed the bed on my hilux.

i just put the flat bed on for now until i fix the original bed. the cab wall still needs to be finished on it also. need to sand off the paper that got stuck to it while glueing! lol.

Looks like a cool build. Of course, you can't go wrong with that chassis and a Yota body.

Hey Brett, I've got some 3/8" square cromoly tube that will close off that bruiser frame perfectly. I tried it already on my cut-down bruiser frame. Have someone TIG it in and you'll be set. I bought it at McMaster.com. If you want just a little piece let me know I think I've got a bit left over from my Jeep frame.

I'm gonna have to steal the rear mounted leaf idea too. Oh and what axle is this? The un-angled leaf mounts are stumpin me.

Also, I think the SDI Trail Dr. XL's would fit it better since Swampers are cheaper and you did say Redneck. Us Rednecks are poor remember.

But this area doesn't look like stock TLT. The rectangle looks too narrow and the bolts go thru at an angle when looking at the top. Thats why I was asking.

Sigh... Yeah even though kaetwo can be a little "special" sometimes, I'm sure he just overlooked this little detail... The rear axle is a Tamiya Diesel truck axle.

Very soon. I've got a full load these days so my build are slow. I just got some material to do some additional work, so I'll have more progress shortly

I really appreciate that. I've got some material that I'm thinking of using but it's flat bar so it may not look that great. I have may just take you up on that offer

As far as using the mounts, steal away

I think your right on the SDI's....I'll have to find a set of those too.

I'll have to take them to the dremel and then the dirt. The axles, rims and tires are just too new
