Default 1.9 Range Rover Build

Hey guys after running my 2.2 scaler in the 1.9 class last sunday and seeing how badly it sucked with the 1.9 tire swap, I've decided that i needed to build something specifically for the 1.9 scale class. I am hoping this one will handle a little bit better. I'm starting the build this weekend should make some progress and have her rolling my the end of the weekend.

Parts that i have so far for the build so far:

Cheap Toy grade Range Rover RC hard body
MFM chassis
TLT axles locked full bearings and aluminum knuckles
RC4wd R2 tranny
RC4wd x10 rezzy shocks (not very 'scale' but they look awsome)
Tamiya Hilift leaf springs
8-32 all thread and 3/16" brakeline for the links (if the leafs don't work out i'm going 4-link)
Traxxas stampede driveshafts
Tamiya Hilift wheels
RC4wd Rock Creeper Tires
AE Monster GT rod ends
Some delrin to make a tranny/skid pate

Wish me luck heh ;)

Thanks guys! here's a quick uipdate

I couldn't get hardly any articulation out of the leafs, so I decided to just go the 4-link route for this truck.

Here's a few pics i took after i got my links made for wheelbase, tranny and axles / driveshafts mounted.

I'm working on limiting my shocks downtravel right now, putting limiters in because these shocks are about half an inch too long.

pantablo: your range rover looks great! roof rack is defineately on my list of things to do. hey did you have to trim your wheel wells for those tires, your body looks a tad bigger than the one i have.

thanks. my body IS different (and slightly bigger) than yours. Its a NewBright Range Rover Sport body.

I did trim the wheel wells but hard to notice as I cut them very subtly. I kept them as is at the top of the arch, then as they come around to the bottoms I eased them out so that at the bottom of the arch they are 1/4" wider each side. If you look closely you can see the flat side at the top of the arch and see how it disappears as it moved down to the bottoms.
They fit the smaller 1.9's well (the 3.7" tall tires) with only a little rubbing at full tuck. The wheel arch and tires are nearly a perfect match. Taller tires don't look good on mine though so it limits my choices.

definitely needs a rack, although it compromises the performance a bit making it top heavy. Still, this is my favorite rig of all mine.

more rover porn

sorry, I'm a total photo whore...lol.

You going to paint it or leave it black? One suggestion I have for you though is to pull the chrome parts and paint them gunmetal. As they stand they're too brash. My body came black/chrome just like yours...

the reason I painted it was to highlight the black door and window pillars , which remain black. I like that detail of the 1:1 rovers.
can't wait to see what you do with it...

very nice build man! I dig the spare tires underneath ;)

Yeah your rover body is definately a little bit bigger than the one i have, I won't be able to narrow the track width enough to tuck the tires under the wheel wells.

Hey guys, here's some more progress pics from yesterday.. I mounted the steering servo on the frame and installed the shocks.. I had to put some shock limiters inside and shortened up the springs a tad filled 'em up with some 30wt oil to start. I also made front battery mount and rear electronics mount.

Very nice clean build. Keep up the good work and once you get it running give us your opinion on those tires. I was thinking of picking up a set.
