| My Recon build.....
Well here is my recent build. I am not really much for doing a step by step build so I figured I would snap some pics before it was done. It still might be a while but here it goes. When Pro-Line released their Recon body I was mildly intrigued. I am a fan of military vehicles and someday I would love to have a Casspir. A local friend has a Pizgauer and I have some pics on file but that axle setup would be pretty difficult. I figured that I could just throw some solid axles under a K2-4 and make it easy, but I really wanted to do something a little different. I looked into some TC diffed with axle setups like a Poulsen (sp?) but they were too wide. I really wanted to stay under 7” wide. Well one of my local guys (Culleto) had a TA-10 chassis from an S-10 he was not using. After some measuring and some brainstorming I came to the conclusion it might work. After some aggressive cutting and tooling I had the gearboxes mocked up and the ideas started to flow. I didn’t mind the limited wheel travel but in the end I ended up with ¾” of throw at each wheel. After mounting the gearboxes and making skidplates for it, it seems extremely stout. The nice thing about a body like this is there is plenty of room for everything. I bought a 400:1 gearbox winch thing for $3 on clearance a long time ago and now I will be able to use it. Woo Hoo! Eritex is working on some custom wheels like the ones pictured on the Tatra for this build. They will have a separate hub that will mount to the hex and then the rim will use 6 screws to mount to the hub. I hope that I can achieve the hub past the wheel look that I want. I like the look of the Flat Irons but I think the diameter is a little big to really look good so I might try some Trail Doctors to see how they will look. The body will be painted on the outside with Flat Olive Drab and I am debating whether to do a sand camo. The drive train and everything will also be shot Flat OD. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I am open to ideas and opinions if you have any that might help with the build. On to the pics. Last edited by FrankyRizzo; 11-22-2008 at 10:05 PM. |

Thats pretty cool your sheet metal work is nice ,so I hate to even mention this thought. Had it occured to you to let those axel assemblies articulate a bit by mounting with linkage or even flexable plastic sheeting instead of the rigid sheetmetal?

| I did. I wanted a certain look so I don't really mind the limited flex.

I got the drivetrain all hooked up and motor installed. Made a center skidplate and mounted the steering servo. I hope to have it running this weekend.
