| Easy 1.5's First, hack the small sidewalls off a set of TLT tires. Use the raised lip as a guide. Then use that sidewall as a guide to cutting the sidewall off the tire of your choice. Mud Slingers in this case. Then cut the outer bead groove off a TLT rim, and glue it to the wheel. HPI Stock Car rims here. Glue everything together and test fit... And paint. Perfect for a 1/12 scale build like this OG Blackfoot |

Great Job. Pablo also has done a few sets of 1.5" wheels and reduced 1.9 trail doctors. Look great. Justin |

very clever work stu. I love seeing stuff like this. Quote:

One thing that I noticed on Scale4x4rc regarding this is that the way Stu has done it, the overall tire height/diameter remains unchanged. So the mudslinger shown there is the same size overall as any other 1.9 mudslinger. He just made the hole smaller. Thats a great way to do a 1.5 wheel and I particularly like how simple it is and the resultant look of the wheel. However, when I use 1.5 wheels its usually to get a more scale looking wheel AND tire so I always reduce the tire too. Since a more scale relationship between the tire and the wheel well is primarily what I'm after. Nice work regardless Stu! | ||

Since the backside of the stock car wheel is still 1.9, you'd have to do a little more cutting to reduce the OD of the tire this way. Basically do the reduction and then cut out the sidewall to 1.9. Besides, I wanted a big tire on this rig; small Slingers just wouldn't look right. These work out to 38's on a 15-inch rim Also, with a 1.9 backside, the wheels will fit XC or TA0x chassis. If you make a 1.5 backside, you can still fit 'em to TLT/Hi-Lift axles. Now for a really huge tire, hack both sides off the TLT tire and graft 'em into a 2.2 Last edited by microgoat; 12-31-2008 at 06:06 AM. |

it helps thet the slingers are smaller tires anyway, I'm looking for some stompers or crushers to reduce to the 1.7 so i my tire height will fit a xc01, without my pumpkin draging the ground on my super narrow wheelyking axles.

Using the tlt sidewalls on 2.2 tires is real easy too. Just cut inside the rib on the sidewall and they fit right into the 2.2 bead. The tlt wheels work good to and look like Weld super singles. Never thought of doing it your way though. |
