| First 1.9....FJ40
I finally got around to building a 1.9. Decided to go with an FJ40 since they fit the wheelbase pretty well and I love the look of the older yotas. That and all the 1:10 scale jeep bodies are too short for my tastes lol. I shortened the rear links a bit to fit the fender wells better, and added a tiny bit more caster to the hand bros CMS kit on the front. Don't really know why but it seems to steer better when coming over ledges. Also added a 4 link on the rear which makes the uppers longer than the lowers; no hop or twist and a steady pinion angle. I took some Delrin and fabbed up some aftermarket style bumpers with some neat angles on them for better approcah/departure angles. I Painted the body a yummy rustic brown similar this one but with an orange hint to it in the sun. My dad had a 79 the same color when I was a kid, and I always liked the tone: I know it's on coils, but I've seen FJs on FZJ80 coils up front and arms, and saw a couple builds where the guy raised the gas tank into the bed area to make room for the rear coils, and made a mountaineer style rack over the tank, so i guess it'll work. Stuck the spare tire inside on teh raised bed and will stick other goodies in with it soon. Also, I've got the general shape of the interior in and still have to build shifters, a wheel and dash. It's a work in progress, but I managed to hide the spur pretty well. and tthe seats will be pretty neat too. Standard running gear includes: SCX10 frame, and shocks (retuned with new springs and oil) 3s 35c/65c Lipo (for that extra oomph when ya need it:grinpimp 45T motor geared 15/87 (going up soon) Tekin FXR ESC Castle creations BEC set @ 6v 3 Racing winch Hitec 985 MG waterproof servo Spektrum DX6 Proline G8 Flatirons on flat black axial beadlocks Axial axles w/Steel dif gears, rustler shafts Axial trans w/steel outputs upper 4link mount courtesy of Reflection/raptorman at RCCrawler Hand Bros CMS steering kit waiting for headlights. Soon... Building seats floor mats etc. later this week but here's a few pics of it running. These were from my wife and I's anniversary trip out to our favorite camping spot. Made some signs and a log bridge for fun;also cuz her's ain't waterproof yet lol! Group photo lol! Shot of the rigs from the scale campsite on the "ridge above the "valley" Whaddya think? |

Sweet ride, I really like the old FJ-40s. Thats what Iam running on my scaler, a little top heavy but worth it. And it does fit a SCX frame pretty nice.

| Updates on the build
Well I got a few more things in the Landy! Picked up some seats from Team3six on RCC. They look fantastic! Got an axe from Jeremy from ORCRC. The detail is remarkable, and the head is solid metal! Heavy too! made a choke strap/ winch line extension out of picture wire and heat shrink, and threw on a Proline shovel. I'll make a better one later. the tow strap is courtesy of KevenP losing one at a comp. I stuck it in there so next time I see him i can give it to him lol! Threw a ground cloth in too for messy repairs and wood for stacking or burning...whatever's needed. Tossed some floor mats in and made a steering wheel out of some lexan, a key ring, and electrical tape, to be replaced with plastidip or heat shrink later when I gt more of both. A conical washer and buttonhead screw make a neat horn. A few more of the general structure. fenders and all I'm still working on a styrene dash which will cover the blems in my paint job,and shifters and pedals , and let's face it, the way I drive the body will be trashed before the build is finished, but once I slap a new body on it'll be sweet I think. Whatcha think? |
