I've finally decided to enter the world of scalers... and what better way than to start off with a Hilux! I tore apart my old "comp" TLT, and got tthe axles, ordered a bunch of stuff, traded for others, and a waiting on even more Here's a list of things I have so far... -Trost built frame, sliders, and tube bed -Loaded TLT axles (bearings, R2J Knuckles, SS C's, CVD's up front, RCP lockouts, RCP lockers, SS pinions) -RC4WD R2 Transmission -EZ Designs Axle Truss II -High Lift shocks -Stampede shafts with steel yokes -HPI Stock Car Wheels -Waterproof XL-5 -Stock WK Motor, 11T pinion -Tower Pro MG995 servo -6 cell Elite 1500 packs -Spektrum DX3 -and of course, a Tamiya Hilux Cab I traded an RTR nitro truck for the chassis... decent deal in my opinion. I got the tranny used here on RCC over 2 years ago, used it in my TLT, traded it away, and traded back for it. I scored the wheels on E-Bay... hella cheap. The motor I got on here, the 27t is crazy fast, so I might end up running a different motor. I'd love to have a waterproof 2075 also... I am waiting on a few things... I got a set of High Lift shocks from a member here, and I'm waiting for them to come in (it'll probably be after the 1st before I see em though). The only other "major" parts I'm lacking would be tires (I'm thinking 1.9 Flat Irons, though I'm still deciding), I'm wanting to leaf spring the front, so I'll need a pair of those, and the body. I'm waiting to spend any real money untill after Christmas... so needless to say, this will be a somewhat lengthy build... at least for me. These pics were taken today (12-22-09): I haven't done anything to the chassis as of yet, but I'm planning to fill in the bed with styrene, shoot it with black, and scratch it up (once it's running of course The axles look the same as any other set of decked out TLT's... I still need to shave the servo mount posts off the front axle... I grabbed the ESC from a buddy who went brushless with his slash (for CHEAP), and I really have no clue how I got the servo... I'm planning on mounting the servo up in the chassis My tranny, wheels Here's a front bumper I picked up from a member here. I'm still not sure if I'll use it... I'll either clean this one up and run it, or have something similar built That's all I've got for now... gonna work on it a bit tonight, so expect an update sometime either later tonight, or tomorrow afternoon **I just realized how crappy the camera I'm using is... might be time to retire the ol EasyShare and get something new!** |

Well, I honestly think that's the first time in 4 years that anyone's subscribed to a thread of mine... so I must be doing something right... Tonight's progress: -Tranny Mounted -Found a good spot for the RX (I've mounted it like this before, works awesome) -Rear driveshaft lengths figured out (I can extend the WB with these lengths if needed) -Rear link lengths figured out (for now, could change in the near future) Sure wish I had my shocks... probably shoulda ordered some sooner than I did, oh well, but I think that's all the rear end needs to be "complete" pics: I'll be workin on it tomorrow... but I'm about at a standstill untill I get more parts... |

Tires came in today... they're not glued yet... I'm still waiting to get the cab and leafs... I keep praying something will pop up in the For Sale section, but I haven't had much luck... so they'll have to wait till I get payed again. The only thing really to do in the mean time is shave my front axle, and make templates for the styrene I'll use to fill in the bed, so I might post another update before too long Here's pics: Thanks for all the comments guys! Though I've had crawlers in the past, this is my first BUILD thread... your comments help keep me motivated! |

I actually didn't build the chassis... (I cheated) I worked out a trade with Trost to get it... but I believe it was MIG welded, then grinded smooth... not sure though

Only update I've got right now would be that I started mocking up panels for the bed... I'm using paper right now, as I still don't have my styrene. I'm kinda on the fence about adding a panel that would act as an "inner fender" (even though I'll have no fenders, and the "inner" aspect would be exposed... Still deciding, any suggestions? On to the pics: I've also decided on a color... drab green with a black hood of course... |

although this rig is insane.... unless some serious weight to compensate for all the weight of the tubed chassis at rear is done, this one will be far to ass-heavy perse' otherwise...yea very sweet indeed put that badass chevy body your workin on this SStone and itd be crazycoolios |

| My plan is to mount as much as possible up front (ESC, Servo, Bumper, Winch), and to weight the front wheels... I doubt it will be any where near perfectly balanced, but I'm hoping I can make it decent...
