Default Trailfinder Hilux

I've had this Hilux body and TF chassis laying around for long enough, so it was time to do something with them. This is my first attempt at a scaler. Not much here that hasn't been done 7 million times, or is super origional, but I thought I'd share what I've done thus far...

Specs:

Tamiya Hilux kit - axles/driveshafts/body/shocks
Trailfinder chassis/leafsprings
RC4WD R2 Transmission
Novak 55t
Older than dirt Super Rooster reversable ESC
Proline Flat Irons on Axial beadlocks

Heres the body in its shape when I pulled it off the shelf...same old paint job....gonna have to change that!

And the Trailfiner...I bought it about a year ago, and why oh why did I choose red?!?!

While some body filler was setting, I couldnt resist whiping up a simple cage to see one of these truggies up close. Hard not to keep going with it, but for now the bed is going on. I'm sure the cage will end up on it someday.

Sooo..what color would look good with a red chassis? How about black with a little bit of 80's Flare?

I pushed my way through old ladies in craft stores trying to find colored decal sheets which I could cut my own, but it came down to the good old LHS to find some that were thin enough for what I needed. Not sure on the colors, or length of stripes yet, but it gives me an idea...

The winch is in its early stages, still pretty rough, its more or less to get the location and such figured out. The fairlead is made out of some plastic shims I use at work for aluminum railings. It seems to work for now, until I find someone who has a nicer one in stock :-(. The line is some 80lb fishing line I took off one of my Muskie rods. Its a little rigid at first, but once the waxy coating wears off (pretty much after 4-5 uses) it becomes very supple and strong. Did I just say supple and strong?:?

Here's the ESC I got from Old Man River back in 1946. It still does the job, althogh I may swap it for the newer Novak Crawler thats in my 2.2. Still need to waterproof everything..maybe tupperware?

Extreme glitching calls for extreme measures, but it solved the problem nicely.

Next was to soften up the leafs. I've seen other people use clamps, so here's my attempt at it. I also Chino'd them up. It was a big improvement on the rocks, as well as made the ride height closer to what I want. However, when its on the bench, the shackles easily go past horizontal and stick. I hope I didnt over do them. They are also very noisy. I think I will swap the front/rear shackels up front to see if that does anything..

Awesome job! ...sweet hooker-red chassis too...lol. I've been meaning to ask this, but what exactly is the chino mod?

I still have a Super Rooster from back in the day when I had my Clod set up for bashing. I love that esc!
