Default Stu-zuki

Just a little project to keep my hands busy.

Started with a frame from the junkpile. This was a 30-inch straight-rail frame for a crawler hauler that never got off the ground:

I gotta say it's a real PITA to bend up a frame that's already made, and next time I'm starting from scratch. Wheelbase is about 10 inches, maybe an RCH more.

Progress shot of the body. Since I had a lot of .020 styrene left over, I used that. The side panels are 3 layers at the bottom. Roll hoop is single layer box section, as are the windshield frame and door headers.

Opening hood reveals the electronics

Yep, only 4 cells. But that's okay, because...

... there's plenty of cowbell from the 18.5 Novak.

Gonna make this as scale as possible with the giant tranny hump. I think I can disguise it. Gonna be tight for the driver, though. Oh well fawk him.

You might want to chart your own course on this one. While the structure is shaping up nicely, and quite stiff for its weight, the rest of the rig is pretty porky. It'll survive a rollover but not a hard tumble. I'm thinking about hiding some brakeline inside for a little insurance.

Probably should have thought of that before I closed up the box-section parts

I'm pretty sure we've crossed the line. What you call motivation, others would call compulsion. Mental-health professionals would use the term "fawking nutburger."

I usually post the previous day's progress first thing in the morning. Then go to work. I tend to get into a zone when I build, so time gets away from me real quick. No modeling in the morning or I'd never make it to work

Time to paint this thing:

Not the sexiest color, but it was here already.

Hope this rust isn't as bad as it looks....

These corner plates will help hide it

Grille & headlights installed

Wrangler taillights

Wonder Woman's Hi-Lift jack gets a little detailing (holes cut out, fun fun)

T-shirt seat cover. Can't do the driver's side til I get a driver fitted in there.

Yeah, call me lazy. But I had a Savage bumper and the winch fits too nicely to not use it:

If you thought these 3R winches were gutless on 7.2v, try one on 4.8 sometime.
