| Turbo's GCM JK
Picked up this turd from Radio Shack just after christmas when I heard on here that they were on sale for silly cheap... I have been wanting to build a new scaler for a pretty long time now, I want one thats a little more robust then my old Ford so I can actually have fun with it and not have to worry about breaking it all the time. I wanted a Jeep so I was happy to get the deal on the New Brite turd. I immediately started sanding the painted on "mud" off the body and cut off all the running boards, bumpers & spare tire. I threw a quick coat of primer at it. A little more sanding and a little more cutting. I chopped the flares off it. and put a quick coat of Flat Battleship Gray paint on it. I really like the color. I have alot more detail painting to do but it'll do for the moment. |

| Gcm cross canyon chassis
I got the GCM Cross Canyon chassis kit form TCS. I kind of stumbled across this kit on TCS and liked what I saw. Then I did a little research on it here and REALLY liked what I saw...so I bought one. Here's the chassis build: It comes with a sick little billet aluminum tranfer case: Nice billet aluminum skid too: The Rails with Skid and Tranfer case mounted: The Best Part is the Trans/motor plate...it takes place of the motor plate on the Axial trans and mounts between the front shock hoops on the chassis acting like a motor/trans combo in a 1:1 Kit also comes with a nice steering servo mount/chassis brace: |

That's a nice setup. Waiting on my body to get back from paint and was going to stick it on a extra scx roller I have but will be looking into the gcm kit your talking about since I was going to use their tc case anyway to keep from having to cut the interior out for the spur gear |

Awhile back I sold off a set of MSD 4DYCE wheels and when I got going on this build I knew they were the wheels I wanted for it...I contacted my buddy who I sold the wheels too and fortunately he still had them...so, I bought them back. I'm glad he didnt sell them to somebody else. I also picked up some RC4WD Mickey Thompson 1.9 Baja Claw tires for it as well. These tires are freakin awesome!!!! Here is the chassis with axles under it and wheels on. I used some 1/4" white delrin tube for mock up just to get the wheelbase tied down. I got the winch from RC4WD...it's a pretty nice little piece. I'm gonna have to make a nice bumper for it to sit on I burned up one of the two axle trusses for the axial axles. used some 3/16" square stock and a couple pieces of 1/8"x1/2" flat stock for the tabs. |

Looks good with msd wheels. What hex's are you using on the front ? I had to use Traxxas wide hex's for my msd wheels. |

| Thanks Eric. Just regular axial hexes. I might want to make it a tad wider...you have a part number or a link for those traxxas hexes? I mean, it sits fine now, but I wouldnt mind having the option. |

| No part number showing up Eric. I have VP knuckles on it and the tolerance is crazzzzy tight...maybe clearance enough for a piece of paper. With stock knuckles it prob wouldnt work.

I wish I had a set of those wheels (2.2s). Did you braze the tabs onto the square stock for the truss? |

| small updates
I was trying to fit the body on the rolling chassis the other night and came across a bit of an issue. The rear shock hoops were interfering with the interior of the JK body. So, it was either hack the crap out of the interior (which i really wanted to avoid) or cut the hoops off and figure out a new shock mount. this hurt to do, but... I wanted to keep it simple since these would not really be seen so I made some delrin shock mounts out of 1/4" flat stock and recessed them to stay flsuh with the frame rails Now they tuck right up into the back seat backs of the interior... The body sits nice on the chassis now. it's sitting a little higher than I'd like, but there is also no weight in the chassis. With bumpers, elecs and lighter springs i think it will sit perfect. |
