| Kaetwo's Montana TTC Entry - The Sami
Well it's time to get crackin at all my builds for the Montana Scale Nats and since the TTC event is a vote in, I had better get a thread going Pinch and I had an opportunity to send the women away for the weekend allowing us to build non-stop for 3 days solid By the end of day 3, I could have cared less to see, work or talk about RC's for a while. The biggest problem with TTC for us, is that there just so dang big and cumbersome. Everything has to be built to the hilt, they look and feel big and are just no fun to drive in anything other than a TTC event. So our goals where to make a rig with the following specs (for good or for worse); - Light - Nimble - Wicked fast - Able to jump and leap gaps - Small (under 12" wheelbase) - Able to fit the UTRCRC Modified Class - Ugly as sin - At least 45 scale points - Side hills like a mother - Incredibly stable - 1.9/4.75" tires - Wicked fun to drive and look at - Build a rig that shows off my sponsors products After several weeks of mowing over ideas, I came across a Sami in an avatar on Pirate 4x4 (see attached). I found out that the guy lives in Colorado, but no longer owns the rig (at least the original owner). The pic is really small, so we didn't have a whole lot of reference, but I think we came up with a pretty good build from it. Last year I took 3rd place at the Montana Scale Nats TTC event and had a total riot. Pinch and I are approaching this year’s event with a slightly different mindset. Last year it was all about big and burley, this year it’s all about building a rig that is capable of winning most of the events (if I can drive ) I'll have pics of the rig later this afternoon as I'm just finishing up the braze work on it More to come |

Good luck with this. I've found that big and burly is what wins the TTC type events. I've always wanted to see what a smaller tired, lighter rig will do against the big boys....assuming you get voted in .

Looks sweet boys, can't wait to see them in action. But, you know you won't be leaving Montana with them, so don't get too attached. |

Nice job guys....but I'm sure others are wondering. Do you guys shower together after a long day of building . One other thing I was thinking. Something like this would be perfect for a reduced 2.2 Proline TSL. The Mickey Thompson is a pretty good tire, but imagine a full width 4.8" diameter TSL mounted on a 1.9 beadlock....yeah baby! |
