Nice work! That cowl is awesome! Must be an early TJ...my 97 has only one, but most others after that had three (IIRC)...

Here's a pic of the cowl.......... I'm not going to replicate all the details but enough to make you think it's all there. I gotta get this finished cause I got an XR10 that I'm itching to get started.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. I thought you were talking about the vent holes, and got mixed up. I was calling the panel behind the hood where the vent is, the cowl. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyhow the YJ had a plate with many more holes in it, and I filed it off and cut the seven holes in place of it just like my 1.1. Let me know what you were talking about, and maybe set me straight.

| Thank's, I've got several hours in it alone. The YJ is bent lower than the TJ, so I had to replace the whole thing. It was a real beach gettin all the holes in just the right place. It started as a flat sheet of styrene, and the headlight buckets were a PVC 1/2" coupling that I cut in half and beveled the edge. I've got some lights with reflectors that just fit in them, but I'm going to have to make my own lenses. |

You don't ever have to worry about jacking a thread of mine. I believe the more info the better! I find this very interesting, and my son just bought a 97, but I haven't seen it yet. He sent me som pics on my phone, but his jeep is black so I didn't notice.

Very nice work. I also learned something new. never knew the Tj's had 3 cowl vents at one point. I have a 99, at least mostly, lol. I have parts that have been swapped into it from many years or other vehicles all together. Axles are from a 97 that had 4:88 gears installed into them before I bought them. The motor core (long block) is from another 97 as well. Mine pooped (cracked pistons) so I got a low millage block from a friend and swapped all of my stuff onto it. Although I put a lot of new stuff on when I did it (new lifters, rods, rockers, timing chain/gears, oil pump, waterpump, all gaskets, etc). Still works to this day (I did it about 7 years ago). I had never really worked on an engine before and got it done in one day all by my lonesome. i did have a friend with a decent shop to loan me with tools, etc. I knocked myself out after finishing it too. The shop has an auto movement light outside (it was dark by this time). But I was bringing out the old fluids after initial startup. I had pulled the engine lift out and put it between the two shop bays. And I was watching the ground as I walked out as there are tranny's and parts everywhere. I walked under the lift and forgot that it was a lift with a boom. And whack, cracked my head on the boom. Not sure how long I was out, but I got up and wipped the blood off and walked home. It was only about 1-2 miles from my house. I was done for the night and wasn't driving after that. it was after midnight and I didn't want to call anyone due to embarrassment and not wanting to wake them. I laugh about it now and they painted onto the lift a circle with (Mark was here) and a low clearance sticker next to it.
