Default TJ Steve's Tamiya YJ to TJ 1 Ton SCX10 Build

OK, I saw a similar build of Tommy R's and caught the bug!
This has been a long build and still not quite done yet. Started in Febuary and done off and on as parts were aquired.
Here's the parts.
SCX10 Kit
Tamiya YJ Body
Tekin FXR and 55T Motor
CC BEC
Hitec HS-645MG Servo
Bulldog Winch
Heyok Winch Controler
Wheely King Shock Shafts
Associated Shock Springs
Axial Aluminum Knuckels
Axial 4 Link Front and Rear
Spektrum DX3R and Receiver
Lots of Brass and Styrene
Probably left something out but can add later.

Here's the beginning of the pics and will add more as time permits.

Here's a pic of the cowl..........

I'm not going to replicate all the details but enough to make you think it's all there.
I gotta get this finished cause I got an XR10 that I'm itching to get started.

Jeremy,
I'm not sure what you are talking about. I thought you were talking about the vent holes, and got mixed up. I was calling the panel behind the hood where the vent is, the cowl. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyhow the YJ had a plate with many more holes in it, and I filed it off and cut the seven holes in place of it just like my 1.1. Let me know what you were talking about, and maybe set me straight.

Thank's, I've got several hours in it alone. The YJ is bent lower than the TJ, so I had to replace the whole thing. It was a real beach gettin all the holes in just the right place. It started as a flat sheet of styrene, and the headlight buckets were a PVC 1/2" coupling that I cut in half and beveled the edge. I've got some lights with reflectors that just fit in them, but I'm going to have to make my own lenses.

Wow! Thanks for the pic! I had never seen or even heard of this detail!
You don't ever have to worry about jacking a thread of mine. I believe the more info the better!
I find this very interesting, and my son just bought a 97, but I haven't seen it yet. He sent me som pics on my phone, but his jeep is black so I didn't notice.

Cool Jeep. Where did you get the front circular head light grill?

Very nice work. I also learned something new. never knew the Tj's had 3 cowl vents at one point. I have a 99, at least mostly, lol. I have parts that have been swapped into it from many years or other vehicles all together. Axles are from a 97 that had 4:88 gears installed into them before I bought them. The motor core (long block) is from another 97 as well. Mine pooped (cracked pistons) so I got a low millage block from a friend and swapped all of my stuff onto it. Although I put a lot of new stuff on when I did it (new lifters, rods, rockers, timing chain/gears, oil pump, waterpump, all gaskets, etc). Still works to this day (I did it about 7 years ago). I had never really worked on an engine before and got it done in one day all by my lonesome. i did have a friend with a decent shop to loan me with tools, etc. I knocked myself out after finishing it too. The shop has an auto movement light outside (it was dark by this time). But I was bringing out the old fluids after initial startup. I had pulled the engine lift out and put it between the two shop bays. And I was watching the ground as I walked out as there are tranny's and parts everywhere. I walked under the lift and forgot that it was a lift with a boom. And whack, cracked my head on the boom. Not sure how long I was out, but I got up and wipped the blood off and walked home. It was only about 1-2 miles from my house. I was done for the night and wasn't driving after that. it was after midnight and I didn't want to call anyone due to embarrassment and not wanting to wake them. I laugh about it now and they painted onto the lift a circle with (Mark was here) and a low clearance sticker next to it.
