Scottie 12-02-2011 02:39 PM

Looks like an awesome build so far!! Look at the left rear wheel on the truck in the video when they are driving it....the wheel is totally bent to crap!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Friday is sushi bar night but was able to make a bit more progress. Cut and bent some of the upper tubes. The main spans are 4130 and the smaller(brighter pieces) are SS. Not brazed yet though - off to dinner!

Amazing work as usual. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your 4130?

GREEDY GENIUS 12-02-2011 09:35 PM

man, this is going to be awsome!...great work so far on the front cage.

Are you going to mostly crawl with it or you going to make it fast?

I've been getting my 3/16" cromoly tubing from McMaster.com last I checked it was $20+ for 6 feet.

This build is awesome, your brazing is simply artful. I'm gonna have to watch this for sure.

FRENCHBLUE72 12-04-2011 01:31 AM

Amazing tube work good god..

KyngHype 12-04-2011 01:01 PM

Nice work so far cant wait to see the finished rig. Cool how close the full scale rigs suspension is to most rc scale setups...

adamargue 12-04-2011 02:03 PM

Just seen this thing in the movie it's nuts. You'll have to take some scenes from the movie and replicate them with this that would be sick.

Ive bought 4130, believe it or not, from Amazon. There are a couple of local places nearby also.

Though it will be a challenge with the long wheel base, I really want to make it crawl first and foremost. Fast is not really my style but I'm not ruling it out at this point:)

Though the cab wont be done yet, after a couple more triangulations to ensure all stays square from this point on, I will be ready to figure out the mounting system to attach this cab to the frame. The tube cab has to be totally removable so that the Oshkosh cab can placed inside it. I'm thinking along the lines of a bolt on system much like my previous Unimog build but on a bigger scale - not just a removable tube roof.

Wow. I wanna grow up to be just like you. "thumbsup"
