Its finally time for my winter build! I did some trading and got a scx10 frame set to be the base for this one. The plan is to keep everything removable in case I decide to build another, which I'm pretty sure I'll do. When that happens all I've got to do is remove a bunch of screws/bolts and I'll have a clean slate to work with again without buying another frame. There is no body going on this one, just a bunch of tube work and a few mostly flat panels. Going to try to keep this a Class 2 rig. It'll get a full interior, driver, lights, and a winch or two. I'm going to try really hard not to get too crazy with the tube work. The goal is clean and simple. A quick rundown of the parts... SCX10 frame set Axial axles and transmisison CDW outputs Beef toobs Axial c's VP zero ackerman knuckles Mayhem wheels TP steering servo Hitec 5645 servo winch Jones'n light kit (x2) Holmes Hobbies 14t Puller GCM transfer case Stampede driveshafts w/Axial rings On to the pics! Cage is mostly done, mocked up at guesstimated ride height. Wheelbase is about 12.5". Check that spacious interior! Not sure on tire size yet. I'm setting it up for the SX's, but the Boggers will most likely find their way on at some point. I'm hoping to ditch the star shaped bead rings and find some like this to replace them with. Pulla Powa! Last edited by Duuuuuuuude; 01-03-2012 at 06:24 PM. |

Very clean braze job on the cage, I look forward to seeing more. BTW, I have a set of Mayhem wheels with similar bead lock rings, minus the dimples. Let me know if you want to swap? |

I made it a point to not eyeball everything this time around. On my various trips to town I've been picking up some odds and ends to help me keep things square and level. I may take you up on the swap. Thanks. Maybe...in the future. Maaaaaaaaan.....thaaaaaaaaaanks. It usually does. Where it will go from here is anybodies guess. Seriously. I haven't planned anything out past the cab. Last edited by Duuuuuuuude; 01-03-2012 at 09:08 PM.

Small update. If I had spent as much time building as I have staring at this damn thing it would have been done long ago. I'm thinking I should rename this thread the "Duuuuuuuude's Lost His Mojo Build". I want it done but can't find the inspiration or motivation to do so, nor can I decide how I want to do the tube work. It seems that I've run myself into a creative rut. Got the cab mounted and a couple rear bars attached. Where the spare will probably sit. I'm thinking about a swing-away carrier for it. Last edited by Duuuuuuuude; 01-11-2012 at 04:38 PM. |

Got a driver. He's not a happy fellow. I think he expected it to be done by now. "Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I said build." Last edited by Duuuuuuuude; 01-11-2012 at 05:36 PM. |

It looking good Chris. You may be in a creative slump now, but I'm sure that you will get your groove back. Just like Stella.

I am liking the cage work as well. Nice clean lines and a minimal but functional amount of tubing. I always wondered why the truggy guys cut of the back of the scx frame. Seems like it would create a weak spot IMO. Are you going to use some mounting tabs to connect the front to the cab, or are you going to have the front as a stand alone? not sure if that makes sence.

All of the cage work will be one piece. Pull out a few screws and the whole thing, interior included, will come off of the scx10 chassis. I thought about making it modular, with the front/cab/bed being separate, but that's more work than I want to do right now. Although...it might not be a bad idea to make the front an individual piece...
