Default Another Tundra Truggy!

Seems like these yota tundras got popular lately..

Anyways, I'm building one too, Had my eye on the Boyer chassis for a while and wanted to put a tundra ontop. The chassis itself is nice but the metal link ends from rc4wd have a lot of slop in them. Going to be changed for some custom links, not to mention I have to extend the wheel base to fit the body ontop.

Specs

RC4WD Boyer chassis roller
Ultimate Yota axles w XVD and 4 links
Cast steelies 1.9 black with yota scale lockers
R2 1:1 Trans
Punisher Shafts
TSL boggers

Novak Goat 3s
Novak 18.5t brushless
7955 Hitec
Rc4wd winch9300
LED light bar

Photos to come tonight.

Sounds like a good setup so far. Are you doing the tube work?

Well the Boyer is pretty much RTC but I'm going to add either and exo cage or an inner cage to the body and around the front. Got all the supplies coming, Harris safetysilv45 and white flux on order. Picked up the 3/16 brake line (nice green coating included).

Started off cutting the body for the dove nose

Mocked up the bed plate and battery box out of cardboard

Narrowed up!

Split and narrowed the grill

Loose mount

Wow love that narrowed front!! I have not had enough experience with cutting and glueing bodys to attempt that. What glue are you using for that?

Plastruct, Inc. - Online Product Detail

I dont have a whole lot of styrene time in myself but it really wasnt that hard. I just cut out the section and hit the front quater panels with the heat gun. Then hit it with the bondene. Later i will fill and shape with some body filler once the rest of the streyne work is done.

Nice Jmike! Take your time with the body work. It'll pay off in the end. As for the brakeline...make sure you sand the coating off the tubing.

Finished up the back of the cab

Made up a radiator for the back

Also brazed on some tabs to secure the inner cage to the body. Hope my ultimate yota axles get here soon so I can start putting things together.

Jmike...I'm going to press you a little. Do you have diamond screen on the windshield of your 1:1? Why on the scaler? It would drive you nuts on the trail! I like the fans, but the tubing is way out of scale...it scales to about 3 inches...a little big for a cooling system in my opinion. I like the plan...but again I have to press you on this!

Haha thanks bulldog! Keeping me on my toes! Tough to hold back some times and not use what's in front of me. maybe some 13ga wire might work better for the hose. As for the rock grill mesh was thinking about that and am thinking of cut it down half way in the front for a better view.

As fOr the headlights I was thinking of using the axial Piaa inside the holes.

Outta town for a week or so, will get on the changes when I'm back!

I pieced the parts together on the RC4WD site and by the time you got the axles, tranny, punishers, links, metal rod ends, winch etc the roller was a good deal. But the metal links have a lot of slop and are getting changed out, I upgraded to the ultimate yota axles, and I'm swapping to TSL boggers. So I don't know if I made out that much ahead. That said the chassis it self is bad a$$ and the adjustability is awesome and should be able to accommodate and hold up to multiple builds throughout the years!

I was digging around at lowe's today, and saw some electrical wire that could do the trick. It'll hold a bend and look spot on. We'll see what you come up with...and smack you around a little if we don't like it! That's why we're here!

Broke down the Ultimate Yota axles and installed the XVD

Filled with Lucas Red n' Tacky

Remade the links to get rid of the slop of the metal link end and extend the wheelbase

Mock up with the body, wheelbase seems alright

Got a nice little tool box for my battery

Thinking of putting the rad at the far back and ditching the spare tire, going to use 12ga wire work the hoses, will conform to a more scale appearance

Started the interior

MVP is too big, going to look for something closer to the terminator here

Everything is loose now, still have to square it all up and connect it to the interior

Finished off a little more interior

Made some pedals

Mounted the rad

Used some mesh as a guard

The 12awg wire looks a little better

Hopefully you can see the drivers feet and the pedals while climbing. Got some a set of box sides coming to to use on the back to give it a bit of a different look. We'll see how it turns out!
