Default best axles for a 6x6 project?

i've got a bug to build a 6x6 rig. got to sell or trade some things off to get parts pulled together but i wanted to get opinions on the best axles to base it off. i'm planning on running 3 link setup, axial tranny at the front with a transfer case.

X2 on the scx/ax axles they seem to be the best to convert the centre axle for thru drive I think you can do the same with TLT's. There are plenty of thread on here with how to's, if you want to be different you could allways run a dual output transfer and 2 rear tailshaft's to any diffs you like.

Thanks for the inputs. I was looking for the best value solution. Seems like the scx axles would fit the bill. I will be reading through the threads on this, especially how to make the center axle.

scx10 axles are your best bet like as everyone else mentioned. i know my lhs sells them periodically for 40.00/per axle NIB. usually they tear apart new kits to sell parts to the customers.

ive never done a 6x6x6 setup myself but....couldnt you use x2 front side of the axle so the pinion exits both sides to power the last axle in the rear? just a thought?

x2 of the same top part of the axle in pic?

SCX axles are easy to mod, basically you just need a front case half and an extra pinion.

Its easier to just get an extra axle, so if you want a 6x6, get 4 axles. You can try and see if somebody will sell you an extra pinion and shaft in the wanted section.

Multi-axle rigs are fun!

i've been thining about this type of project for awhile. trying to trade off my summit to get started. (love the summit but not getting much use out of it).

i've been looking through other build threads and here are some examples of rigs that caught my eye:

For the ax 10 pass through axle you need two of the output side cases and two outputs. The pass through axle will sit with one axle half facing up and the other upside down, the half facing up will be tward the front of the truck and the half facing down will be closer to the rear axle. Then the rear axle will be flipped or mounted upside down because its output will spin the opposite direction.

i appreciate the input. i was thinking about the rotations of the axle input/output shafts. this clears it up for me.

the output shaft from the middle axle that powers the rear axle spins in the opposite direction so the rear axle must be flipped upside down so that the tires turn in the correct direction.

I build a 6x6 a few years ago using the ax-10 axles, it was pretty easy. I actually liked the look of the WK axle housing better, they looked more like a Rockwell style military axle but parts for them are much harder to find.

yep 2 of the same. add your pinion gear in the axle and you're good to go.

i had thought about the WK axles too and for the same reason (the look) but i think parts and price for scx10 axles will be the best. it does make me regret selling my WK foff project a few months back!

If you want a true 1:10 scale model, you may want WK axles to bring the width into the right size.

Figure out what truck you want to build, and figure out the scale. Wide offset wheels may get you what you need, but you often won't get the nice scale stuff. Really, a true 1:10 scale multi- axle rig should use 2.2 wheels/tires.

The poles have proven this, just check out this forum:

i haven't done enough research on sizing things up yet. chances are i won't be as true to scale as others. i'm hoping to get something that looks close to scale while still using readily available and hopefully inexpensive parts. going to be looking at the for sale section quite a bit!
